The Wikus X3000: achieving higher cutting rates

Cutting austenitic steels, nickel-base alloys and other exotic alloys is not a challenge anymore when using bimetal band saw blades Gigant or Vector.

By combining these high-performance geometries with the new cutting edge material X3000, which is the latest product development of Wikus, it is possible to achieve even higher cutting rates, shorter cutting times and a considerably longer blade life on these applications, a Wikus spokesman says.
Mostly, the cutting process is the first machining step when working metals. The engineers of Wikus were especially focused on rust- and acid-resistant steels, nickel-base alloys as well as quenched and tempered steels with high strength in medium and large dimensions.
Cutting those materials, which are difficult to work on, demands a band saw blade that counters the hugely increasing cost pressure by short cutting times and high efficiency. This is mainly required due to the development of raw material prices and increased personnel costs.
Currently, these steels are mainly cut with bimetal blades. This is due to the high process reliability, the flexibility and good blade life of these blades.
“Wikus has always endeavoured to increase the customer‘s benefit by developing tools with higher performances and is thus contributing to saving the development and production location Germany,” the spokesman says.
The engineers of Wikus, which is located in Spangenberg /North Hesse, succeeded in decisively optimising the existing positive features of its bimetal blades Gigant and Vector with the new cutting edge material X3000.
“The new cutting-edge material X3000 has really exceeding toughness features in spite of a tooth tip hardness of 69-70 HRC, which clearly improves the wear resistance of the tooth tips,” the spokesman says.
“Moreover, new production methods lead to optimal cutting-edge sharpness of our new X3000 products, which achieve even more capability and smooth cutting.”
Before launching the product into the market, the company made extensive tests with the new cutting edge material X3000 at its cutting centre and with selected customers.
The results of the customer tests show the whole potential of the new cutting edge material X3000. Wikus offers Gigant X3000 and Vector X3000 for cutting applications in the field of austenitic steels and nickel-base alloys, which are difficult to cut up to largest dimensions. The product range of X3000 includes the band widths from 27 to 80 mm in tooth pitches from 0.7-1.0 up to 4-6 teeth per inch.
Since 1958 Wikus has been producing high-tech tools for industry and trade. Its blades are used where highest precision, fine cutting and maximum power are required.
