U.S.Robotics is striving to boost its Middle East business following its decision to open its regional office in Dubai.

A top manufacturer of modems and a fast emerging force in the high-speed Internet access solutions market, U.S.Robotics' Dubai office will be responsible for the operation, management and growth of the company's businesses, partners and customer service across the Middle East and North African regions.

"The Middle East is a market that we have been watching for a while," said Luis Baptista-Coelho, territory sales manager, Business Development Group for U.S.Robotics. "We feel that this is the right time for us to establish a direct presence in this important and dynamic region. We bring a strong history of innovation, market leadership and customer focus to providers and users of Internet access products, and we will be increasing our focus in the Middle East and North Africa significantly with this move."

The announcement of the Dubai headquarters for the Mena region is an integral part of the company's global market strategy for expansion, which was announced in September 2000. A well-recognised name in Internet connectivity, U.S.Robotics is bringing a new generation of modems, along with innovative solutions, to channel partners and end users. The move is also meant to allow the company to establish a technical support and customer base centre for the region.

U.S.Robotics, headquartered in the Chicago (US) area, has helped bring the Internet into millions of homes and businesses around the world as a modem provider.

"For three decades, U.S.Robotics has been at the forefront of modem technology, and in the 1990s was the first to boost analogue modem speeds to the V.90 56K standard.

U.S.Robotics has a wide range of analogue modems. The company's product portfolio includes all U.S.Robotics branded desktop modems, U.S.Robotics Courier branded business modems, ISDN terminal adapters, cable and DSL modems as well as wireless connectivity solutions.

"We have the No 1 position worldwide in terms of market share, and we will continue our tradition of making the most reliable, simple and innovative access solutions," said Baptista-Coelho. "While analogue modems are an integral part of our business, we are expanding U.S.Robotics' product line with new high-speed access solutions to cater to the growing need for broadband both on the consumer and on the business sides. This gives us the ability to match solutions to meet the needs of people from around the region as they access the Internet using a number of different network technologies and access models and data rates."

"U.S.Robotics' dial-up analogue, digital and high-speed data access solutions will enable the Middle East Soho and SME markets to benefit from high-speed, broadband Internet technologies that offer flexible, affordable and user-friendly Internet access and networking capabilities in line with the most appropriate access media for each unique Middle East network environment," the company said.

It added that future products to be introduced in the region would include cable and DSL Internet access solutions.

"We have a solid base of users and partners in the Middle East and North Africa. By establishing the regional U.S.Robotics office here, we are simply moving closer to them, to learn more about the market and how we can service it. We have more than a generation of leadership in Internet connectivity to share with our customers here, and we want to make sure that all our resources in terms of technical support, marketing and sales are available to them" concluded Baptista-Coelho.

"This year, U.S.Robotics has re-emerged as an independent company and will continue its tradition of making the most reliable, simple and innovative Internet access solutions available," the company said. "All U.S.Robotics resources - from engineering to customer support - are dedicated to fulfilling that commitment."
