The Neopharma plant that Amana built in Mussafah Industrial City

Amana Contracting and Steel Buildings, a regional leader in the design, construction and commissioning of commercial and industrial buildings in the Middle East, has carved out a niche for itself in industrial cities across the Gulf, having accomplished some iconic projects, the company says.

“Amana is set for even greater heights, moving ahead with the confidence of achieving substantial success and establishing itself as a quality leader, especially in the industrial cities’ segment,” it says.
“Established in 1993, it is now the regional leader in the design-build of industrial and commercial facilities, with over 1,500 buildings constructed across the region and with vast experience across all the leading sectors in the Gulf region,” it says. During this period, Amana has been actively involved in some of the biggest international and regional projects.
Amana Group’s chief operating officer Riad Bsaibes says the company has emerged as a leading name in fast track and turnkey construction in the region, enjoying pride of place in strategic projects in various spheres
Commenting on Amana’s strategic presence in the sector, Bsaibes says: “Amana’s presence across the industrial cities continues its impressive success story in the Middle East. We’ve had success across various sectors and successfully provided comprehensive design-build solutions to various industrial, commercial and institutional projects within such specified developments. We plan to expand our presence across all markets in the Middle East within the context of our regional growth strategy.”
Some of the key projects undertaken and handed over by Amana in the industrial cities sector were a pharmaceutical plant for Neopharma at Mussafah (Abu Dhabi) which spreads over nearly 9,000 sq m. The plant comprised three main facilities – a general production plant, an antibiotics plant and the administration building. The main concern was achieving a Class I000 clean room to control the concentration of airborne particles, a pre-requisite for global health standards. Amana accomplished that requirement.
It further consolidated its presence in industrial cities with the construction of a paper mill for Abu Dhabi National Industrial Projects (ADNIP) at Mussafah (Abu Dhabi). The 9,000 sq m facility was constructed on a turnkey basis and comprised three buildings. The company also built a tufted carpet manufacturing plant for ADNIP at Mussafah, spread across 8,871 sq m. The turnkey project comprised one main building, which hosts the production plant, and areas for loading and unloading and storage of raw materials and finished goods. The building also includes offices, labs, a showroom area and cafeteria.
Amana has also completed a turnkey paint factory for Hempel Paints in the Sharjah Industrial Area. The facility, with a total built-up area exceeding 10,000 sq m was completed in six months and includes a small storage area, loading docks and offices. Another turnkey project it completed was a 14,000 sq m showroom for Liberty Automobiles at the Sharjah Industrial Area.
Among other notable projects accomplished by Amana in industrial cities and hubs are a workshop for  Mahmoud Jafar Abdullah at Sharjah Industrial Area (48,000 sq m), a pasta factory for Al Ghurair in the Jebel Ali Industrial Area (18,000 sq m) and an AHG store complex for the UAE military at Mussafah (16,500 sq m).
Some of the projects currently under construction include the Qatofin logistics platform for Alfred Talke Logistics at Mesaieed Industrial City (57,000 sq m), a massive PP and PH petrochemical complex for Saudi Kayan at Jubail Industrial City (127,500 sq m) and a concrete block factory for Modern Concrete Products at Sohar Industrial Estate, Oman (3,000 sq m).
Bsaibes said the company’s in-house design capabilities were being continuously fed with site experiences for tailored and specific projects within the cities. He added that the company had many plans in place relating to involvement with other developmental projects in upcoming industrial cities across the Gulf.
Amana Contracting highlighted some of its services including design-build turnkey services. The company obtains approvals from authorities and proceeds to complete the project. It also undertakes projects based on pre-approved designs completed by a third-party engineering and design office. Amana also designs steel buildings solutions and supplies and erects steel structures, typically in large steel projects for power plants and establishments having oilfield applications.
The company has more than 7,500 employees spread across seven countries. Its regional presence is characterised by a decentralised structure which leverages the regional experience it has gained with the speed and response of a local company.
