TietoEnator, one of the largest IT services providers in Europe, has won contracts to deliver mill information systems to Stora Enso mills in Sweden and Germany
Stora Enso’s Hylte and Nymِlla mills in Sweden have ordered a mill information and quality system upgrade from TietoEnator.

A new mill information and quality system will also be delivered to Stora Enso Maxau in Germany as part of a larger manufacturing execution system (MES) project.
The new systems support Stora Enso’s drive to increase productivity. The upgrade from the old MOPS systems to the latest Windows-based version of the TietoEnator Integrated Paper Solution (TIPS), which is a business and manufacturing execution system for the pulp, paper, board and tissue industries, enables continuous future applications and hardware support, a statement explained.
TIPS Info handles process and production information in real time, quality systems for pulp and paper production, long-term storage of process data and information analysis functions. It is also fully integrated with the Microsoft Office environment.
The deliveries to Hylte and Nymِlla comprise a fully deployed system and include a multi-year support agreement to maximise the benefits of investments by ensuring that new functions and applications for paper and pulp will be implemented at the mills. Hylte Mill is also implementing a common mill logbook (TIPS LogBook). This system automatically monitors production-limiting disturbances and analyses various incidents that occur in the production process. The system will minimise unscheduled downtime and production disruptions.
“We’ve had a good collaboration with Stora Enso for many years in this area, and we are now continuing with a modernisation of the information and quality systems to the latest version,” says Ulf Sandlund vice president, Nordic sales, TietoEnator Forest. “The upgrade gives the users a more modern and more powerful system. From our point of view it gives us better capabilities to assure good support for hardware and software. System harmonisation between different mills generates cost efficiency through improved coordination and information sharing.”
