Al Jaber Heavy Lift and Transport, a member of the Abu Dhabi-based Al Jaber Group, recently acquired the world’s highest capacity mobile crane from Demag, Germany.

The Terex Demag CC8800-1 Twin, with a 3,200-tonne lifting capacity, is an innovative modular crane system based on the multiple utilisation modules of the CC8800-1.
“The name twin refers to the impressive double boom which increases the lifting capacity of the CC8800-1 by a factor of almost four in certain configurations whilst retaining the ability to pick and carry loads at the highest capacities,” says Alex Mullins, managing director, Al Jaber Heavy Lift.
“Similarly, the luffing fly jib and the superlift mast are also doubled up and connected by cross-bracings and all winches and hook blocks are provided in pairs. Nevertheless, the new crane is extremely compact for its capacity and is designed to make dismantling, movement between projects and re-assembly quick and easy,” he says.
The official added that the crane was designed for a wide range of applications including the petrochemical industry, power station, construction and major infrastructure projects.
With its mobility and exceptional lifting capacity, the crane represents a considerable saving of both time and space requirements in the erection of large industrial facilities when compared with ring lift cranes, sliding gantries and jacking towers, according to Mullins.
Al Jaber Heavy Lift has about 300 cranes in its fleet including crawlers, all-terrain, rough-terrain and truck-mounted lattice boom cranes. The new crane joins an existing fleet of large Demag lattice boom crawlers including CC 8800-1, CC 8800, CC 2800-1 and other models.
The crane, produced by the German manufacturer and funded by Al Jaber’s investment, has taken eight years to develop and is available for heavy lift requirements anywhere in the world.
Established in 1979, Al Jaber Heavy Lift specialises in the full range of lifting and transportation services from hire and trip basis to the execution of totally engineered and managed “factory to foundation” projects comprising of marine transportation, overland transportation and erection of cargo at site.
“Our mission statement is to consistently provide our clients with safe, comprehensive and high-quality heavy lifting and transportation services which meet world-class standards,” Mullins says.
The operations are executed by the company’s teams of highly experienced and motivated personnel whose technical expertise ensure the quality of services. Emphasis is placed upon the implementation of homogenous and comprehensive documentation and procedures to ensure that safety, engineering, quality and training requirements are implemented and maintained at the highest international and local standards.
