Gulf Extrusions, the first extrusions firm in the GCC region to supply X-Eco, alloys made from recycled aluminium, received the Green Industry Award 2013 from Dubai Municipality in recognition of its environmental achievements.

X-Eco alloys offer significant benefits such as CO2 reduction of up to nearly 50 per cent compared to exploiting primary aluminium; reduction in the overall consumption of energy when used in buildings; far-reaching recycling options; maximum use of recycled aluminium; and high grade quality.

The award was presented in the large industry category and followed a thorough assessment of the company’s environment management system and waste management practices.

Modar Al Mekdad, Gulf Extrusions general manager, received the award from Hamdan Al Shaer, director of the environment department, Dubai Municipality.

Last year, Gulf Extrusions received the inaugural Gulf Aluminium Council (GAC) environmental award under the downstream aluminium companies category for its focus on innovation and leadership to achieve sustainable environmental performance and for lowering stack emissions. The company has been focusing heavily on reducing waste through recycling, while increasing greenery around its factory in Dubai.   

Part of the Al Ghurair Group of Companies, Gulf Extrusions produces aluminum extruded profiles ranging from architectural sections to components for air conditioning grills, furniture, marine applications, transportation, automotive, and customised products. It also extrudes products for several European customers and companies.
