Dulux, supplied throughout the Middle East by Al Gurg Leigh’s Paints, has announced that it employs Leed (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) standards in all its paints.
Al Gurg Leigh’s Paints is the first paint company in the UAE to become members of the US Green Building Council, said an official.
“The paint industry is becoming much more aware and responsible,” said Sunil Gudur, chief manager, Al Gurg Leigh’s Paints.
“It is now possible to provide high-quality industrial paint solutions which have little or no impact on the environment. We intend to educate the industry in looking for the best paint solutions, not the cheapest,” he added.
Coatings from Al Gurg Leigh’s Paint have been used on some of the most iconic structures throughout the Middle East, including the helipad and bridge of Burj Al Arab, the Maktoum Bridge in Dubai and the Sheikh Khalifa Bridge in Bahrain.
“Leigh’s paints has more than 100 years of experience in manufacturing the most reliable paint coatings in the world and is also one of the most environmentally-friendly,” he added.
Gudur said professional coatings for the many structures under construction around the UAE and wider Middle East were vital to ensuring the longevity of the buildings in the unique climate.
Paint manufacturers are producing safer, water-based paints that are non-toxic, contain no lead or mercury, that provide even more impressive results, in line with growing global awareness of green practices.
Recent scientific developments now allow paint coatings to provide outstanding industrial protection while also helping to reduce the carbon footprint.
Al Gurg Leigh’s Paints plans to open 50 new Dulux decorator centres across the UAE to cope with increased damand, the company said,
The Middle East paint market is worth nearly Dh750 million ($204.1 million) each year, so the region will be a key area of growth in the international paint market, according to executives from ICI Dulux.
ICI Dulux has been operating in the Middle East for over a decade, with its products manufactured exclusively in the UAE at Al Gurg Leigh’s Paints.
With many building projects now complete, and people living in their new properties for a couple of years, there is a big drive to add individual style to the new homes.
“People in the Middle East are looking to replace standard colours that are found in every new home. They want to apply a personal touch and are seeking out increasingly bold colours,” said Tony Myers, managing director, licensing and export business, ICI Paints.
