Hawk’s facility in Dafz

Dubai Airport Free Zone-based Hawk Freight Service FZE, a specialised logistics provider in the region, has experienced substantial growth in business since its inception in 2003, according to the company.

With headquarters in the UK, the parent company Hawk Freight Services started operations more than two decades ago. Since then it has grown into a substantial force within the logistics industry. Setting up an office in Dubai, the hub of international cargo traffic in the Middle East, was strategic and part of the company’s business development plan.
In a short span the Dubai office has been able to create a very positive relationship with major airlines and other service providers.
“This was only possible due to our growing list of loyal customers,” says Chanaka Malalasekera, general manager, Hawk Freight Service.
Malalasekera said company policy enjoined staff to listen to its customers and design solutions around their needs. This has gone a long way into developing long-term relationships with clients as well as numerous suppliers.
“Being located in Dafz has helped us maximise the use of our resources. The ease of doing business within the free zone has given us the chance to be flexible when it comes to servicing clients. It is due to this fact that we decided to build our own warehouse and office premises within Dafz,” he says.
Since the beginning of 2007, the company has poured in extra resources in order to develop its 3PL services. These efforts have resulted in the need for additional storage and handling space. Once complete, these new premises will fulfill this requirement.
“Since we specialise in high-value vulnerable cargo, security has always been a top priority for us,” he says, adding: “This is evident from the Tapa accreditation our headquarters in London obtained late last year. In keeping with these set standards, the new warehouse and office in Dafz will be equipped with the latest security technology. Our clients can therefore be confident that their cargo is handled securely at all times throughout the supply chain.”
The company says its core business, airfreight forwarding, is still its number one priority. Its signing of long-term rate agreements with leading carriers has enabled the company to provide its clients competitive rates for most destinations out of Dubai, says Baburaj Vakayil, business development manger with Hawk Freight.
Vakayil has several years’ experience in the freight forwarding industry in Dubai and has been with the company since the beginning, spearheaded its growth.
Vakayil says, “In our endeavour to assist our clients in receiving seamless supply chain solutions we are now looking at expanding our presence in the region. This we intend doing by opening new offices in some selected cities throughout the Gulf or by acquiring existing offices. Negotiations are underway and we expect these new ventures to boost our growth in the region exponentially.
“Last but not least, the experience and dedication of our staff have contributed immensely to this success.”
