Ausra announces venture
Solar thermal power developer Ausra has announced that it will open a manufacturing plant for components of its systems in Las Vegas, Nevada, in the US
Ausra, started in Australia and now based in Palo Alto, California, says it is the first US manufacturing plant for components in the burgeoning solar thermal industry.
Ausra is one of a handful of developers of the US solar thermal industry which is currently centered in the West, particularly Nevada and California. It is there that the best and brightest sunlight is available for the solar thermal plants, which its advocates say will within just a few years produce renewable power on a scale of large conventional natural gas- and coal-fired units without carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions.
The plant will be capable upon opening next April of making up to 200 megawatts of solar collectors each month. It will employ 50 people, said John O’Donnell, Ausra executive vice president.

Siemens unit gets deal
Siemens Power Generation (PG) has been awarded a contract by Power Machines (PM) for the supply of major power plant components for the Urengoiskaya and Kirishi projects in Russia.
Power Machines is Siemens PG’s strategic partner in Russia. Only a few weeks ago Siemens PG and the majority shareholder of Power Machines, Alexsey Mordashov, concluded an agreement on extensive cooperation with the leading Russian supplier of power plant equipment, Power Machines. These two projects are further evidence of the role of Power Machines and Siemens as market leader in Russia in the field of gas turbine technology.
