Cortec unveils anti-corrosion pills

These easy-to-use tablets provide up to two years of premium multi-metal corrosion protection

A team of chemists and engineers at Cortec Corporation, a global leader in VpCI and MCI corrosion control technologies for packaging, metalworking, construction, electronics, water treatment, oil and gas, and other industries, have launched what they call `revolutionary’ anti-corrosion pills called Cor-Pak Tablets – a cure to “diseases” caused by corrosion.

Using this small, economical, yet strong corrosion preventative allows customers to eliminate expensive methods of applying and removing coatings. Cor-Pak Tablets provide an extremely efficient dry method of protecting metals within a package, the company said in a statement.

Using Vapor phase Corrosion Inhibitor (VpCI) Technology, these easy-to-use tablets provide up to two years of premium multi-metal corrosion protection. Just a few tablets need to be dropped into a bag, box, or package. Cor-Pak Tablets powered by Nano VpCI are nitrite, phosphate, and silicate free, making them user-friendly and easy to apply. They provide targeted VpCI multi-metal protection to ferrous and non-ferrous metal items and are an excellent option for protecting small and hard-to-reach areas.

Tablets are very quick and easy to install.

After the VpCI vaporises, it will attach to all metal surfaces, reaching even recessed areas. The protective molecular layer does not need to be removed prior to processing or operation.  If opening the package disturbs the layer, it will be replenished by continuous vapor protection upon reclosing. The VpCI will not interfere with the operation of electrical and electronic components. Tablets are designed to protect products, components, or assemblies when packaged in corrugated boxes, plastic wrap or bags, and metal, plastic, or wood containers. They will also protect in the corrosive environment of overseas transport. Protected parts can be used immediately.

 Some additional applications are:

• Completed assemblies, parts, and components

• Sensitive electrical/electronic equipment and controls

• Marine and commercial electronic equipment

• Interior of lighting fixtures

• Motors and mechanical controls

• Tools, spare parts, and components

• Nuts, bolts, nails, screws, and fasteners

According to the company, Cor-Pak Tablets will protect up to 7.1 liters (0.25 cubic feet) of enclosed space per tablet. They are easily inserted in packaging by manual or automated systems. Cor-Pak Tablets conform to NACE Standard RP0487-2000, MIL-I-22110C and are RoHS compliant.

Preservation of HRSG Tubes

A large power plant imported HRSG tubes and received them in a rusted condition. The plant wanted to remove the rust and preserve the high value tubes.  The rust was removed with Cortec VpCI-426, followed by cleaning and neutralisation with VpCI-419 cleaner/ degreaser. The tubes were dried and then coated with VpCI-368. Cor-Pak Tablets were placed inside the tubes and the tubes capped at both ends. The stack of tubes were then wrapped with Cor-Pak VpCI Stretch Film.

Cortec products were the unanimous choice because of the previous experience of preserving HRSG tubes in semi-sheltered conditions. There was no rust formation even after two years. The solution was cost-effective and left the customer pleased and satisfied.
