DP World names new CEO for UAE Region, Jafza

DP World, the Dubai-based provider of smart end-to-end supply chain logistics, has appointed Abdulla Bin Damithan as the new CEO and Managing Director for the UAE Region and Jafza replacing Mohammed Al Muallem, who has been promoted to Executive Vice President of DP World. 

The move comes in line with growth and expansion plans of DP World that will bolster its position as a world leader in global supply chain solutions, said a statement.

During his 20-year long career at DP World, Damithan has held leadership positions with increasing responsibilities, the most recent being Chief Commercial Officer for the UAE Region. Lauding the appointment, Group Chairman and CEO Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem said: “DP World has been integral to Dubai’s economic success story, contributing more than a third of gross domestic product.”

On his new role, Damithan said: “Our aim is to expand DP World, UAE Region and increase our contribution to Dubai and the country. I am looking forward to utilising my experience in the company to create unparalleled solutions that support sustainable socio-economic growth, and also to cement DP World’s position as a leading smart trade enabler.”

Aramex appoints Othman Aljeda as new CEO

Aramex, a leading global provider of logistics solutions, has appointed Othman Aljeda as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Company, replacing Bashar Obeid who submitted his resignation to the Board on April29.

Obeid will work closely with Aljeda to support a smooth transition of responsibilities, an Aramex statement said.

Aljeda joined Aramex 1994, and over the last two decades, he has stepped up in several leadership roles to strengthen the Company’s business in the GCC, Asia, and North America & Europe. From 2007 to 2017, Aljeda set up Aramex’s first regional office in Asia and spearheaded its expansion plans in the region, establishing major hubs in Hong Kong and Singapore.

Captain Mohamed Juma Alshamsi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Aramex, said: “We congratulate Othman and welcome him as the new CEO of Aramex. Tabreed names Al Marzouqi as its new CEO

The National Central Cooling Company (Tabreed), a leading district cooling developer headquartered in the UAE, has appointed Khalid Al Marzouqi as its new Chief Executive Officer.

Al Marzouqi joins Tabreed from Dolphin Energy, where he was Chief Operating Officer – Downstream, responsible for overseeing the entire Operations Downstream Division in the UAE. Prior to this he was Senior VP at Dolphin’s Technical Services Division. He also handled senior roles at the Abu Dhabi Department of Transport, Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Authority (Adwea) and Adco.

An industry veteran with more than 25 years of experience in the energy industry, Al Marzouqi holds two majors in Chemical Engineering and Petroleum Engineering.

Announcing the appointment, Chairman Khaled Al Qubaisi said: “Al Marzouqi joins Tabreed at the beginning of an exciting new chapter and brings with him a wealth of experience in the energy sector, where he has worked at the most senior levels.”

Al Qubaisi also commended the outgoing CEO Bader Al Lamki for his steadfast belief in the company.

ATRC appoints top tech executive as CEO of ASPIRE

Dr Arthur Morrish, a leading international high-tech sector expert has been named the first chief executive officer of Aspire, the dedicated technology programme management pillar of Abu Dhabi’s Advanced Technology Research Council (ATRC).

Prior to joining Aspire, Dr Morrish was the Vice President for Advanced Concepts and Technology with the Raytheon Intelligence and Space Systems (RIS), a leading US-based provider of integrated sensor, communication and electronic systems and space systems. Dr Morrish, an American, brings more than 30 years of experience in developing and managing innovative, technical solutions to a wide array of commercial challenges, in addition to overseeing multi-million-dollar, cross-business programmes from inception to advanced prototype then transition to internal and external customers.

Faisal Al Bannai, Secretary General of ATRC, said: “Dr Morrish is a proven leader with deep knowledge of the advanced tech sector. His work on funding research that led to pioneering advancements and overseeing programmes from the drawing board to prototype to customer dovetails with Aspiere’s mandate; to make globally impactful decisions and allocate funds to cutting-edge research.”
