Salama begins fire prevention training

Officials inaugurating the new training centre located in Sharjah’s University Road area

The Salama Preventive Training Institute, an institution being run by the Sharjah Prevention and Safety Authority (SPSA) and managed by Saned, has begun its first set of training programmes on fire prevention and occupational safety and health in Sharjah.

At the launch Eng Sheikh Khalid Bin Saqr Al Qasimi, chairman, Sharjah Prevention and Safety Authority said: “The launch of a training Salama Preventive Training Institute seeks to meet the need for quality training, which is a necessity for workplace safety and one of the most important provisions to prevent work accidents. The initiative follows the directive of Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, to consider ‘human safety’ as topmost priority.

“We are confident that Salama provides the foundation for workers to develop a culture of behavioral safety by taking preventive measures that safeguard their safety and their lives, in line with our vision to achieve a safe and risk-free society and our mission to enhance the quality of life based on the highest standards of safety and prevention, with the ultimate goal of preserving life and property in the emirate.”

The announcement has been made at a time when more and more companies in the emirate are taking part in Salama’s training sessions designed to enhance the capabilities of workers, guards, and other security personnel.

Apart from capacity development, Salama’s training programmes are also aimed at promoting the best practices in the field of security and prevention in line with the directive from Sharjah’s authorities.

Local businesses have expressed interest in Salama’s new training programmes in keeping with their ongoing efforts to adopt an integrated training approach for their workers and concerned technicians.

The sessions will tackle roles and responsibilities; risks identification, including workplace transportation accidents; safe and appropriate handling of work equipment and hazardous materials; and proper emergency reporting and guidance, to name a few.

Attendees will receive a certificate of completion upon finishing at least 10 per cent of the sessions.

They will also be given a professional certificate in occupation safety and health and fire prevention.

Mahra Alshehhi, Prevention Training Institute acting manager and Salama project manager, SPSA, said: “We will continue to develop our training programmes to keep up with the rapid changes in the business environment as we consistently support all efforts enhancing the quality of life in Sharjah.”

Alshehhi added that seats are limited for 2019 and those wishing to enroll in the training courses must register for the reservation.

“The course is priced at $68 (Dh250), which is much lower than similar services,” she said.

Sultan Al Ketbi, CEO, Saned said: “We are pleased by the huge turnout in our programmes delivered by our elite trainers, who share with the participants their knowledge, experiences, and skills needed to apply the best practices and guarantee the safety and protection of life and property in the workplace.”

The Salama Preventive Training Institute is located at Muwaileh Commercial University City Road with training halls that are equipped with a simulation system for firefighting and other advanced technologies.

The training courses last for three hours each.
