Buyout boosts Bobcat range

Bobcat Company has announced the purchase of Sambron SA, a manufacturer of telescopic handlers from the Fayat Group of Bordeaux, France.

Bobcat, a business unit of Ingersoll-Rand Company, is recognized as a world leader in compact equipment.

Sambron designs and manufactures a complete range of fully hydrostatic, state-of-the-art telescopic handlers offering maximum lifting capabilities from 2.5 to 4.0 tonnes to maximum heights from 5.6 to 18.0 m.

The Sambron line of telescopic handlers complements the Ingersoll-Rand line of telescopic handlers produced for the American market at Ingersoll-Rand's plant in Shippensburg, Pennsylvania. The Sambron products will join the market-leading Bobcat line-up of skid-steer loaders, mini-excavators and attachments.

Chuck Hoge, Bobcat Company President, says: "With this new acquisition, we are expanding our product range to include telescopic handlers, which represent a growing worldwide market and share a similar customer base with Bobcat products."

"Bobcat has a reputation throughout the world for the quality of its products and the excellence of the people who market and service these products. As an acknowledged leader in the industry, with an excellent, state-of-the-art design, the Sambron line of telescopic handlers is therefore an attractive addition to the Bobcat line. We applaud Sambron and its employees for their achievements and we intend to nurture this success and build on it in the future."

The Sambron product range - currently sold in Europe - is a perfect fit with products that complement and share similar markets with the Bobcat product lines, allowing the company to offer an increased product portfolio to its customers. The addition of Sambron will strengthen Bobcat's position in European markets such as plant hire, building and construction and will enable Bobcat dealers to meet a broader range of customer material handling requirements.

These products will soon be made available to Bobcat distributors throughout Europe. As plant capabilities expand, the company will take the telescopic handler products to Bobcat dealers in North American and its other world markets.

Hoge adds: "Through the Sambron acquisition, the telescopic handler market will form a strong part of our growth plans for the future. To the excellent design of the Sambron products, we will add new investment in engineering and production at the Pontchateau plant, matched by our comprehensive sales and distribution organisation with more than 900 dealers worldwide."

Bobcat Company is a business unit of Ingersoll-Rand Company of US, a major, diversified industrial company. Ingersoll-Rand's product lines serve a wide range of industrial and commercial markets worldwide.

Bobcat Europe, based in Belgium, is claimed to be the Number One in skid-steer loaders, with approximately 50 per cent market share throughout Europe.
