THE Twin Robot Xbar (TRX) from ABB is the fastest robot-based solution in the market for loading and unloading presses without the need for press modification.

ABB has been developing robot-based press automation solutions for nearly two decades. Its latest innovation, the TRX, is a fast and flexible parts transfer system with an output rate of up to 16 parts per minute for big panels in tandem press lines. The system also can be retro-fitted to existing press lines, setting it apart from similar systems which require additional space between the upright and bolster.

“Cost efficient and reliable, the TRX reconfigures part distance when side-shifting while eliminating the need for additional actuators,” says Ramon Casanelles, ABB robotics product manager for press automation.

A single controller system, the TRX with 10 axes is distributed across two four-axis robots, plus two additional axes in the crossbar. The use of two robots is the optimum way to distribute the total power and to minimise inertia.

The system can fit any customer standard crossbar and production requirement. Crossbar changes for new production have been fully automated on the press bolster or at the inter-press.
