Cranes arrive in Dubai

THE first four of 50 rail mounted gantry (RMG) cranes bound for DP World’s new Container Terminal 3 have arrived at Jebel Ali Port. 

Four other ship to shore (STS) quay cranes are expected shortly having already sailed from the yards of Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industries Company (ZPMC) in China.

The 4 million teu terminal, due to open in 2014, has 19 quay cranes on order to be  installed alongside a 1,860 m long and 17 m deep quayside that can handle four of the next-generation of the world’s largest container vessels simultaneously.

 

Plans for big port

SAUDI Arabia plans to build a massive port on its western coast on an area of 43 million sq m to lure investment and also ease pressure on the Red Sea port of Jeddah. The port, to be located on the coastal Red Sea town of Al Lith, will be able to receive giant cargo ships and other vessels and ease pressure on Jeddah, which is already one of the world’s busiest harbours.

 

DWC signs MRO deals

DUBAI World Central (DWC) signed key partnerships with leading maintenance, repair and operation (MRO) companies at the Dubai Airshow, to open new facilities at its aviation district.

The companies include Tempus Jet, a VVIP interior completion centre, and Rotocraft Service Group (RSG), a leading provider of rotor and fixed wings aircraft custom interior, air conditioning and engineering solutions.

The aviation district will provide support for general aviation, aircraft manufacturing component fabrication, MROs, helicopter modification and maintenance, training and other related aviation businesses, said a statement.

 

New UASC services

UNITED Arab Shipping Company (UASC) is introducing two new feeder services to expand its coverage of Asia.

The dedicated and direct services will run weekly, covering Japan, Central and South China, Thailand, and Vietnam effective end of November 2013. These new services will provide UASC customers with expanded coverage as well as competitive transit times.
