CAVOTEC, the global engineering group and airport systems integrator, and several French firms were among exhibitors at the Airport Show held last month in Dubai.

Cavotec showcased its groundbreaking clean apron technology, described as the latest concept in airport design: it eliminates non-essential mobile GSE vehicles such as costly auxiliary power units (APU) from the apron and delivers utilities to the aircraft (air, fuel, power, water and wet services) via in-ground pop-up pit systems.

The company has a 4,525 sq m facility in Dubai equipped with workshops. It also offers installation services as part of its system integration, which it says is a unique offering in the region.

Currently, Cavotec is fulfilling orders for frequency converters in Kuwait, pop-up pits for Salalah Airport, fuel hydrant pits and access covers for Muscat Airport, pop-up pits and pre-conditioned air units in Dubai, and pits with converters and pre-conditioned air units for hangars in Sharjah and Abu Dhabi. The group’s most recent project is at the Emirates Engineering Centre at Dubai International Airport, which will employ Cavotec’s unique pop-up utility pits and Pre-Conditioned Air (PCA) units for its four new Airbus A380 hangars. Delivery is due to start in Q2 this year, with commissioning slated for the end of 2013.

A French pavilion organised by Ubifrance, the French Agency for international business development, promoted the capabilities of its manufacturers and service providers keeping in mind there are an estimated $90 billion worth of projects in the shape of new constructions, expansions and modernisation going on in the Middle East.
