APM Terminals Bahrain, the operator of Khalifa Bin Salman Port (KBSP), for the second consecutive year has continued to contribute towards uplifting maritime education and training, through its partnership with Bahrain Polytechnic.

APM Terminals Bahrain's efforts aim to prepare the potential future workforce for Bahrain’s maritime and logistics sector, said a statement from the company.

With ‘Education’ being one of the strategic corporate social responsibility pillars for APM Terminals and in line with its commitment to create sustainable future for the communities in which it operates, this joint initiative with Bahrain Polytechnic, has so far benefitted 36 aspiring professionals pursuing maritime logistics.

Of this, two students graduated with full-time employment opportunities at Khalifa Bin Salman Port in Human Resources and Operations departments. Moreover, the company also runs an Internship programme for graduates which, since 2014, has hosted over 40 internships with full-term employment offered to best-performing candidates.

This year, 40 Bahraini students enrolled with the Bahrain Polytechnic Bachelor of International Logistics Management, which includes a curriculum on Port and Maritime, will attend knowledge sessions on maritime logistics, conducted by APM Terminals Bahrain senior management including the CEO, at Khalifa Bin Salman Port (KBSP) and the Polytechnic campus.  

Organised over a span of one year, Bahrain Polytechnic students will undergo a guided tour of the port and terminal facilities for enhanced understanding of the operations, port development and planning; vessel types and movements; procedures and regulations of Port and Customs Authorities and much more.

A student from Bahrain Polytechnic, said: “This opportunity has been a great learning experience – both in terms of gaining technical knowledge as well as real-time exposure to port operations.”

“Moreover, an opportunity to interact with senior management team of APM Terminals has really helped me to gain insights into the maritime industry, making the course material more relevant,” he said.

Dr John Webb, dean of the faculty of Business and Logistics at Bahrain Polytechnic, said: “This is a really exciting opportunity for our students to study first-hand the key aspects of the maritime and logistics industry including port operations and supply chains.”

“Most importantly, they will also gain industry insights from the experienced staff of APM Terminals. With on-port lectures and visits organised by APM Terminals Bahrain, this will be a real-time learning for our students, helping them become more aware of the industry and choose for themselves various career options and area of specialization they would like to pursue in future,” he added further,” he added. – TradeArabia News Service
