Mersal: promoted

Aluminium Bahrain (Alba), the Bahrain-based international aluminium smelter, announced a major safety milestone as its Casthouse achieved 5 million hours without Lost Time Injury (LTI), last month.

A celebration was held to appreciate the Casthouse employees, which was attended by Alba’s deputy chief executive officer Ali Al Baqali; chief power officer Amin Sultan; chief administration officer Waleed Tamimi; director of casthouse Abdul Rasool Ahmed Abdul Rasool; manager legal Stephanus Grobler and other officials, said a statement from the company.

Alba’s chief executive officer Tim Murray said: “At our company, we believe that all work-related injuries and illnesses are preventable.”

“This is a significant accomplishment for us and testifies our unwavering commitment to safety and health practices at all times. I congratulate the casthouse teams on achieving the safety milestone of 5 million working-hours without LTI and urge them to keep- up the safety momentum,” he added.

Meanwhile, Alba recently promoted Khaled Mersal to manager, Power Expansion Project. Mersal joined Alba in 2008 as a shift engineer under the Graduate Engineers training programme for power operations, said a statement from Alba.

He was promoted to power operations superintendent in 2016 then as the acting manager Power Expansion Project since August 2016, it said.

Mersal has a Bachelor in Mechanical Engineering Technology and a M Sc in Engineering System Management from Kingston University, London, UK. He also holds an MBA from the College of William & Marry Virginia, US.

Murray said: “We are committed to promote Bahraini nationals from within to leadership positions for the future success of the company.”
