Unipart Rail to set up Saudi JV

UK-BASED Unipart Rail, a leading supplier of services to the rail industry, said it will join hands with Arabian Railway Company to set up a new company that will deliver world-class projects, supply chain services and consultancy in Saudi Arabia.  Arabian Railway Company is the first of its kind and a specialised multi-disciplinary railway services company based in Saudi Arabia.

 

Sohar Port to attract $8bn

OMAN’S Sohar Port and Freezone, following a new phase of expansion and growth, aims to attract $8 billion worth of new investments over the next five years, said a report. Part of this targeted inflow will be generated by Sohar’s new reclamation project, according to Mark Geilenkirchen, chief executive officer, Sohar Port and Freezone, according to a report. Geilenkirchen added that officially to be named ‘Sohar Port South’, the reclaimed land will allow the industrial port to expand its portfolio of companies and add more business to drive growth within the Omani economy.

 

EGA project feasibility study

SNC-Lavalin is currently conducting a feasibility study for Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) for its 10th generation Technology Pilot Section project, located at EGA’s Al Taweelah site in Abu Dhabi, UAE. The objectives of the study are to define the project and validate the budget in order to launch the execution phase of the pilot section, said the company. The work is being carried out from EGA’s Al Taweelah site. Design and detailed engineering work has already been completed by the EGA technology team.

 

L&T seals Oman power order

LARSEN and Toubro (L&T), India’s biggest engineering conglomerate, said its power transmission and distribution unit has won a $175-million contract for turnkey construction of the 400/132 kV Qabel Grid Station and associated works in Oman, thus consolidating its position in the country’s substation segment of highest voltage level. Oman Electricity Transmission Company (OETC), a subsidiary of Nama Group, which owns and operates the nation’s main interconnected system (MIS), had awarded the contract.

Besides this, L&T said its power transmission and distribution business had secured two more key orders in the UAE.
