Cargo soars at DWC

CARGO at Al Maktoum International - Dubai World Central (DWC) rose sharply in H1 2015.

Freight volumes surged 42 per cent to 443,012 tonnes, up from 311,365 tonnes in the same period last year.

Growth was driven by Dubai Airports’ strategic decision to relocate all dedicated freighters from Dubai International to DWC in May 2014.

 

‘Go Green’ campaign held

SIX global marine terminal operators – DP World, Hutchison Port Holdings (HPH), APM Terminals, PSA International, Shanghai International Port Group (SIPG) and Port of Rotterdam Authority (PRA) – launched the first joint industry initiative to promote environmental awareness.

The initiative ‘Go Green’ was aimed at making a sustainable difference in the communities where these top companies operated.

Held from September 14 to 21, it focused on three themes: re-use and recycling, climate change and communities.

 

Workshop held for port staff

APM Terminals Bahrain held a week-long event to introduce the ‘5S in store’ initiative to its employees.  The five-step initiative is to improve the productivity of both plant and equipment at the Khalifa Bin Salman Port.

Twelve staff from the continuous improvement section (technical department), the container terminal and general cargo department and the procurement department attended.

The event was described as a step forward in Technical Productive Maintenance.

 

DHL Qatar wins awards

DHL Express Qatar accepted two prestigious awards under the ‘Customer Services Team of the Year’ and ‘Human Resources Team of the Year’ categories of the 9th Annual Stevie Awards for Sales and Customer Service.

Its customer service team received the Silver Award, while the human resources team bagged Bronze Award.

Nael Attiyat, manager DHL Express Qatar, said the accolades were well deserved.
