Expert inputs for iconic landmark

The floating bridge over the Dubai Creek

Rexroth technology is proud it has lent safety, efficiency and reliability to a key infrastructure landmark in the UAE – the Dubai floating bridge.

The span is an example of Rexroth’s technological pedigree and versatility coming to the fore.

“Creating the right solution for any intelligent motion challenge demands the perfect combination of technology and engineering know-how to satisfy the unique demands of that project. If it’s to do with driving, controlling and moving, then Rexroth is represented in virtually all sectors and industries with a large diversity of products and applications, ranging from a standard solution to a large-scale individual project,“ says Rami Al Ashqar, business development manager, Bosch Rexroth Middle East.

Dubai floating bridge, an iconic landmark that is the first of its kind in the region, embraces the meaning of innovation and state-of-the-art technology across the water of the Dubai Creek. With a total length of 365 m and a width of 22 m, the pontoon bridge features six lanes on two identical, mirrored decks spanning the entire Dubai Creek. It can accommodate 6,000 vehicles per hour during peak hours.

EXPERTISE
Leopold Denk, sales, industry sector, general machinery, stage technology and paper, Bosch Rexroth, explained the technological features that fulfilled the demands of the project.

“The tide compensation technology from Rexroth is able to compensate the high/low tide level electronically by sending signals to the hydraulic system that correspondingly lifts/ lowers the access ramp to/from the floating bridge according to the change in level of the tide,” he said.

“This solution from Rexroth ensures the safety of the bridge structure and the safety of the vehicles driving on the bridge.”

He assured motorists driving on the floating bridge that they were in good hands with Rexroth.

Rexroth’s standard power units range from 2-1/2 to 100 gallon units, providing power from 0.5 to 50 hp and 0.4 to 31 GPM (fixed or variable displacement) with operating pressure to 3,000 PSI. They are available with various options for the customer’s particular solution.

Standard power packs with fixed displacement output are available for quick delivery of compact, competitively priced, quiet, and high-quality units. Ranging from 2-1/2 through 20 gallon units, providing 0.4 to 10 GPM fixed flow to 3,000 PSI 0.5 through 20 HP motors, are standard TEFC, 1,750 rpm, three phases, with some models available in single phase.

Standard variable displacement power units are available from 20 through 100 gallons, with 4.2 to 31 GPM variable displacements, to 3,000 PSI through 50 HP.

The variable line incorporates the company’s close-coupled motor pump group, eliminating the customary bell-housing and providing a more compact design. This close-coupled motor-pump group is available separately as well for incorporating directly into the machine or system.

German Gulf Enterprises, distributor and partner for Bosch Rexroth in the UAE, is involved in maintenance when needed to ensure the system continues to perform to peak levels.
