HDMI Licensing LLC, the agent that licenses the HDMI Specification, has announced that the HDMI interface has been honored with a Primetime Emmy Engineering Award for engineering excellence in the television community by the Television Academy.

The Engineering Emmy Award is given for developments and/or standardisation in engineering technologies which either represent so extensive an improvement on existing methods or are so innovative in nature that they have materially affected the transmission, recording, or reception of television. The award will be presented this month at the 66th Annual Technology & Engineering Emmy Awards at the Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada, during the 2015 International CES conference.

“To be recognised as one of the technology breakthroughs that has had a significant effect on television engineering is an immense honour for the HDMI organisation,” said Steve Venuti, president of HDMI Licensing LLC. “What started out as a vision to improve the consumer experience has become the de-facto worldwide HD connectivity standard and a household name for exceptional digital audio and video quality over a single cable.”

Venuti: setting a new standard

This development dramatically simplified the consumer experience and has led to the worldwide adoption of HDMI technology by consumers and manufacturers alike.

Today, over 1,500 HDMI adopters have created over four billion HDMI-enabled products that provide consumers with a superior viewing experience, pixel-for-pixel video accuracy, and audiophile-quality sound.

HDMI Licensing is the agent appointed by HDMI Forum to license Version 2.0 of the HDMI Specification and the agent appointed by the HDMI founders to license all earlier HDMI specifications.
