A cable reel for the all-electric RTG

DUBAI-headquartered DP World’s Yarimca container terminal in Turkey will receive 18 all-electric Konecranes Rubber Tired Gantry (RTG) during 2015 following an order it placed with Konecranes earlier this year.

Konecranes has previously delivered container-handling equipment to DP World terminals in Algeria, Egypt, India and the UAE, but this order is the first all-electric RTG order for DP World.

DP World’s Yarimca container terminal is being developed by DP World, the world’s third largest global container terminal operator. DP World Yarimca will be one of the biggest container terminals in Turkey with an annual capacity of 1.3 million teu. The terminal will be operated by DP World Yarimca Liman Isletmeleri AS, a subsidiary of DP World.

The 16-wheel cable reel RTGs will stack one-over-five containers high and seven plus truck lane wide. They will include a number of safety and productivity enhancing features such as: active load control, which prevents load sway and provides micro-motions in both trolley and gantry directions; auto-steering with container positioning interfaced to the terminal operating system; stack collision prevention; a truck guiding system; and a truck trailer anti-lifting system.

The RTGs will be automation-ready, so they can be automated in the future with a minimum of infrastructure work.
