Saudi Ministry of Transport has announced the opening of the Jadeedah Arar port on the Iraqi border following the completion of maintenance work on the road leading to the port.

This comes as part of a package of joint agreements between Saudi Arabia and Iraq, said the statement from the company.

Announcing the opening, Governor of the Northern Borders Region, Prince Faisal bin Khalid bin Sultan, said as part of its preparations it had installed 6,000-m-long safety metal barriers for crossovers and dangerous curves, safety concrete barriers for the traffic island with a total length of 3,200 m, 32-km-long safety concrete barriers as part of a preventive maintenance project on both sides of the traffic island, and built five intersections.

The agreements aim to create investment opportunities across all sectors and securing all roads to and from Jadeedah Arar port, the only one between the two countries, he stated.

Deputy Minister of Transport Engineer Badr Abdullah Al Dulami said the developed logistics area at the port would serve as a gate for the northern part of the kingdom to promote the economy by attracting investors and help strengthen the Saudi-Iraqi economic relations in line with its Saudi Vision 2030 initiative.

The transport ministry has implemented many roadwork projects, including the installation of 150 warning and regulatory signs, 1,990 m of concrete curbstones, application of reflective road paint with a total of 9,000 sq m and installation of reflective ground control signs with a total of 1,500 sq m, he added.
