The chairman of Swedish steelmaker SSAB, Bengt Kjell, will step down in the wake of recent ownership changes, the company said. SSAB said it would propose board member Lennart Evrell, former chief executive of metals group Boliden, as new chairman, while reducing the number of board members to seven from eight.

World crude steel production in August this year decreased by 1.4 per cent year on year (yoy) to 156.8 million metric tonnes, according to the World Steel Association (worldsteel). In the January to August period this year, world crude steel production totaled 1.32 billion mt, up by 10.6 per cent yoy. In Asia, crude steel output amounted to 112.
