Project: KMoE-Subiya Power Plant

Budget: $3 billion
Scope: The project calls for the construction of a gas-fired combined-cycle power plant at Subiya, which will have a proposed power generation capacity of 2,000 MW.
Update: The project is expected to be completed in December 2012.

Project: KMoE-Al Zour North Phases 1 & 2-Power
Owner: Kuwaiti Ministry of Electricity and Water
Budget: $1.8 billion
Scope: The project calls for the design and construction of a 1,500 MW power plant at Al Zour North.
Update: The main tender has been re-issued and bid submission is due in April with the project expected to be completed in June 2012 as part of Phase 2.

Project: KMOE-Al Zour Power & Desalination Phase 2-Power
Owner: Kuwaiti Ministry of Energy (KMOE)
Budget: $1.7 billion
Scope: The project calls for the second phase expansion of the Al
Zour power and water plant by 1,200 MW and 60 million gpd.
Update: The project is expected to be completed in December 2012.

Project: KMoE-Shuaiba North-Power

Budget: $1.3 billion
Scope: The project calls for the construction of a combined cycle power and Multi-Stage Flash (MSF) desalination plant at Shuaiba in the north of Kuwait. The plant will generate 828 MW of power and produce 45 million gpd of desalinated water.
Update: The project is expected to be completed in June 2010.

OMAN

Project: PDO-Coal Fired Power Plant in Raysut
Owner: Petroleum Development Oman (PDO)
Budget: $5 billion
Scope: The project calls for the design, supply, installation and commissioning of a 2,000 MW coal fired power generation plant in Raysut in southern Oman. The plant will be the first in the region to be coal fired.
Update: The project is expected to be completed in December 2012.
 
Project: Barka IWPP 3-Power (Sohar)
Owner: Oman Power & Water Procurement Company (PWPC)
Budget: $1 billion
Scope: The project calls for the design and execution of a 650 MW power plant at Sohar in the north of Oman. The 650 MW is part of the 1,300 MW Barka IWPP 3. The other portion of the project will be at Barka in the northeast part of the sultanate, which calls for the design, build and operation of a 650 MW plant with a capacity of 130,000 cu m per day. The power plant is likely to be gas-fired.
Update: The main award is due soon.

Project: Salalah IWPP-Power
Owner: PWPC
Budget: $700 million
Scope: The project calls for the construction of a 445 MW power and 15 million gpd desalination of the Independent Water Power Plant (IWPP) in Salalah on a Build, Own and Operate (BOO) basis.
Update: The project is expected to be completed in March 2012.

Project: PDO-Amal Power Plant 126 MW

Budget: $150 million
Scope: The project calls for the design, supply and construction of a 126 MW gas-fired power plant at the Amal field, 700 km south of Muscat. The scope also includes 170 km of 132-kV overhead lines.
Update: The project is expected to be completed in June 2011.

QATAR

Project: QP-Ras Laffan IPP
Owner: Qatar Petroleum (QP)
Budget: $4 billion
Scope: The project calls for the design, supply, construction and operation of a 2,500 MW gas-fired power plant in Ras Laffan.
Update: The project is expected to be completed in December 2012.
 
Project: QEWC-Ras Laffan IWPP C-Power
Owner:
Ras Girtas Power Company (RGPC)
Budget: $2.5 billion
Scope: The project calls for the design and execution of a 2,730 MW and 63 million gpd independent water and power plant at Ras Laffan to be called Facility C.
Update: The project is expected to be completed in April 2011.

Project: Mesaieed IPP
Owner: Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation (Kahramaa)
Budget: $2.3 billion
Scope: The project calls for the design, supply, construction and operation of the first Independent Power Project (IPP) at the new power and desalination complex in Mesaieed. The plant will have a power generation capacity of 2,007 MW. The contract will be implemented on the build, own and operate (BOO) basis.
Update: The project is expected to be completed in April 2010.

Project: Qatalum Project-Power-Combined Cycle Plant
Owner: Qatar Aluminum (Qatalum)
Budget: $1.5 billion
Scope: The project calls for the supply and installation of a 1,350 MW combined cycle gas-fired power plant with a 220 kV substation and 400 kV grid connection. The scope also includes a water treatment plant, DCS, transformers and associated facilities to serve the 1.2 million tonnes per year (tpy) aluminium smelter. The power plant will have 4 gas turbines and 2 steam turbines.
Update: The project is expected to be completed in December 2010.

Project: Qatofin-Ras Laffan Ethane Cracker
Owner: Ras Laffan Ethylene Company
Budget: $1.5 billion
Scope: The project calls for the construction of a 1.3 million tpy ethylene cracker at Ras Laffan industrial city in Qatar for Q-Chem. The development will be using Chevron Phillips technology. The cracker will provide ethylene feedstock to the planned polyethylene and alpha olefins plants in Mesaieed through an interconnecting pipeline.
Update: Project is on schedule and will be commissioned soon.

Project: Kahrama-Power Plant D
Owner: Kahramaa
Budget: $1.5 billion
Scope: The project calls for the design and execution of a new 1,300 MW power plant known as Facility D. The location is yet to be finalised, but the three locations being considered are Ras Laffan, Messaieed and Umm Bab.
Update: The main award is due soon.

Project: Qapco-Total Polyethyle-ne Project
Owner: Qapco-Total JV
Budget: $1.2 billion
Scope: The scope of the project is to build a polyethylene plant in Qatar that will have the capacity to produce 450,000 tpy of low density polyethylene used for plastics and could later be expanded to 600,000 tonnes.
Update: The project is due for commissioning.
 
Project: Qafco 5-Ammonia & Urea Fertiliser Expansion
Owner: Qatar Fertilisers Company (Qafco)
Budget: $1 billion
Scope: The project calls for the construction of a fertiliser facility which involves a 1.26 million tpy plant for urea and two plants for ammonia with a total capacity of 1.584 million tpy. The facility will be built 1.5 km from the existing Mesaieed complex in Mesaieed in Qatar. It will also have a 167 MW power plant, desalination, effluent water treatment, air separation, nitrogen plants and seawater cooling towers.
Update: Commissioning in progress.

SAUDI ARABIA

Project: Jizan Economic City-Power Plant
Owner: Saudi Arabian General Investment Authority (Sagia)
Budget: $9 billion
Scope: The project calls for the design, supply, installation and operation of a 4,860 MW power plant to serve upcoming industrial developments in Jizan Economic City.
Update: The project is expected to be completed in February 2011.

Project: Rabigh 2 Power Expansion-Phase 2 (1,400 MW)

Budget: $3.5 billion
Scope: The project calls for expanding the Rabigh 2 power plant by 1,400 MW. The scope includes engineering, procurement of turbines, construction and commissioning.
Update: The project is expected to be completed in December 2012.

Project: WEC-Shuqaiq IWPP Phase 2-Power
Owner: Water & Electricity Company (WEC)
Budget: $3 billion
Scope: The scope of work consists of expanding the existing product facility to 850 MW. The project structure is based on a 20-year build, own and operate (BOO) agreement. The plant will be crude-oil-fired and serve the Aseer and Jazan area.
Update: The project is expected to be completed in December 2010.

Project: Maaden-Al Zabirah Bauxite Development-Power & Desalination

Saudi Arabian Mining Company (Maaden)
Budget: $3 billion
Scope: The project calls for the design, supply, installation and operation of a power and desalination plant with a capacity of 1,750 MW of power, 400 tph of steam and 3 million gpd of water to serve the planned Maaden aluminium smelter and alumina refinery at Ras Al Zour in the eastern province of Saudi Arabia. The power plant will be oil-fired.
Update: The project is expected to be completed in April 2013.

Project: Riyadh IPP

Budget: $2.8 billion
Scope: The project calls for the design and construction of a 2,000 MW Riyadh IPP in Saudi Arabia.

Project: Marafiq-Jubail IWPP Phases 1 – 3-Power
Owner: Marafiq
Budget: $2.6 billion
Scope: The Marafiq Independent Water and Power Plant (IWPP) project in its first phase will be based on a 20-year build,
own, operate and transfer (BOOT) agreement. It involves a new facility that will have the capacity to produce 2,750 MW
of power and 800,000 cu m of water per day. In the second
phase, the project will produce an additional 2,500 MW of
power and 100,000 cu m of water per day. The power plant will be linked to the 380 kV national grid.
Update: The project is expected to be completed in June 2010.

UAE

Project: ENEC-Nuclear Power Plant
Owner: Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (Enec)
Budget: $15 billion
Scope: The project calls for the design and execution of four reactors of 1,500 MW at the Emirate’s first nuclear plant. The nuclear plant will have a total capacity of 5,600-6,000 MW.
Update: The project is expected to be completed in December 2019.

Project: Dewa-Hydrogen Power and Desalination Plant- Ras Hassyan

Dubai Electricity & Water Authority (Dewa)
Budget: $3 billion
Scope: The project calls for the construction of a power and desalination plant in Ras Hassyan with a production capacity of 2,000 MW. The power plant is based on the Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle (IGCC) that uses syngas, a mixture of carbon monoxide and hydrogen, to produce electricity and water. It also has a hazardous-waste emission of almost zero.
Update: The project is expected to be completed in December 2011

Project: Adwea-Fujairah IWPP 2-Power
Owner: Abu Dhabi Water & Electricity Authority (Adwea)
Budget: $2 billion
Scope: The project calls for the design, supply, installation, commissioning and operation of the second Independent Water and Power Plant (IWPP) at Qidfa in the Emirate of Fujairah. The power plant will be gas-fired and generate 2,000 MW. Desalination capacity will be 130 million gpd and 591,000 cu m per day.
Update: The project is expected to be completed in June 2010.

Project: Ajman Coal Fired Power Plant

Budget: $2 billion
Scope: The project calls for the design and execution of a coal-fired power plant which will be located in Ajman. The plant, which will have a capacity of 1,000 MW, will be built on a build-own-transfer basis.
Update: The project is expected to be completed in March 2012.
 
Project: Adwea-Shuweihat IWPP S2-Power
Owner: Adwea
Budget: $1.5 billion
Scope: The project calls for the design, engineering, procurement, financing, construction, commissio-
ning and operation of the new Independent Water Power Plant (IWPP) in Shuweihat.
Update: The project is expected to be completed in March 2012.

Project: Dewa-Wind Farm Power Project in Dubai
Owner: Dewa
Budget: $1 billion
Scope: The project calls for the construction of a test 250 MW wind farm for power generation. The scheme involves research on wind as alternative source for power in the region and aims to supply up to 10 per cent of Dubai city’s power requirement. The scope of work involves meteorological study, design, supply and installation and operation of a 70 m high wind turbine.
