Emirates Aluminium Company (Emal) has awarded Solios Carbone with a turnkey contract for the design, supply, installation and start-up of a bath treatment plant for their new smelter located in the Industrial zone of Taweelah Port in Abu Dhabi.

Emal, a joint venture between Dubai Aluminium Company (Dubal) and Mubadala, have started the construction of one of the largest aluminium smelters in the world. In 2010, the initial capacity of this plant will be 700,000 tonnes with an expansion for phase 2 to follow at 1.4 million tonnes per year.
The Solios Carbone contract consists of the engineering and supply of all equipment for the following: hot crushing of the crust shovels and anodes butts cleaning bath; cooling in a metallic pan conveyor; processing in an airswept autogenous mill designed by Fives Solios for storage of the product dedicated to the cover of the electrolysis pots.
The upstream part of the bath cooling will be equipped with a duct network for fluorinated fumes collection connected to the gas treatment in order to reduce the global emissions of the smelter.
This order will implement Celsios, the clean bath processing solution. Solios Carbone developed the technology for the hot bath treatment.
The start-up of the first phase of the plant is planned for October 2009.
