The second shipment of major equipment for the new Bahrain Gateway has arrived at Khalifa Bin Salman Port from Shanghai aboard a specialised ship.

The last of the four large ship-to-shore (STS) cranes, which will be used to load and discharge containers on and off vessels, and six rubber tyred gantries (RTGs), have arrived at Bahrain Gateway. This was the second vessel to arrive at the new port.
Once Bahrain Gateway at Khalifa bin Salman Port is operational, all commercial cargo, which is currently handled at Mina Salman, will transfer to the new port.
The new cranes are capable of handling vessels up to post-panamax size, which will enable shipping lines to call directly into Bahrain.
“Bahrain’s proximity to the markets of Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Iraq and northern Iran make it a natural location for carriers to hub cargoes for these markets and we are confident that the availability of an industry leading port in Bahrain will attract shipping lines to take advantage of this geography,” said APM Terminals sales and marketing general manager Iain Rawlinson.
“This will, in turn, give the country the basis for a transportation infrastructure, which will make it an even more attractive location for foreign companies to set up manufacturing and distribution centres for this rapidly growing regional market.
“We are proud to be a key part of this exciting time in Bahrain’s development - and to be able to provide Bahrain with one of the most essential building blocks in terms of both infrastructure and network in order to fulfil the kingdom’s goal of being the preferred location for business in the region.”
