BMMI’s presence in the Republic of Djibouti underlines its strategic intent to expand the group’s activities outside the Middle East to other emerging markets that offer the potential for mutually beneficial strategic alliances and business partnerships.

Djibouti’s strategic location at the entrance to the Red Sea places it on the world’s busiest shipping lanes and close to the oilfields of the Arabian Gulf. With its status as a free trade zone in the Horn of Africa, it is ideally positioned to provide services as both a re-export hub for the region, and as an international transshipment and fuelling centre.
As such, it provides a perfect fit for BMMI’s core business activities.  In January 2005, the group opened a state-of-the-art logistics facility in Djibouti Free Zone.
The complex was designed, constructed and fitted-out by B& B Logistics, a joint venture between BMMI and the Banz Group, which specialises in the construction and operation of world-class temperature-controlled warehousing. BMMI handled the installation of advanced information and communications technology, including implementation of the latest automated warehouse management and supply chain management systems.
The group’s current business activities in Djibouti comprise several major contracts that support overseas government military logistics and supply operations. These entail the international sourcing, import, customs clearance, warehousing and distribution of specified food and beverage items.
Underlying the group’s success to date are the mutually beneficial relationships it has established with leading regional and international companies, manufacturers and brand principals. BMMI actively seeks new strategic alliances and business partnerships with companies and organisations in Djibouti and neighbouring countries in East Africa.
Key opportunities include: distribution agreements with food and beverage manufacturers and brand principals; wholesale supply of food and beverages to the hotel and hospitality sector; food and beverage retailing; hotel and shopping mall management services; contract-based food and consumable supply services for overseas governments and non-government organisations; third-party logistics and supply chain management services; consultancy and training in quality control, human resources and logistics.
