Al Faris working on the Expo 2020 Stadium in Dubai, UAE

UAE-headquartered crane and heavy equipment rental company Al Faris has transported a cargo of structural steel elements for the Expo 2020 event in the UAE.

The project involved lifting and installation of 42 structural steel elements for the construction of the UAE pavilion structure. All surveys, planning, technical support documentation, execution plans and schedules were prepared in-house by Al Faris prior to the job execution.

Al Faris provided lifting for items up to 46 metres in length and up to 55 tonnes in weight. For the first stage of the project Al Faris lifted and installed structural steel elements ranging between 24 metres and 46 metres in length. The weight of the units ranged between 8 tonnes and 55 tonnes.

The company, after careful consideration and study, decided to use Liebherr 1,000-tonne crawler crane due to the long working radius requirement for the installation. For the final stage, Al Faris used its Liebherr 750-tonne all terrain mobile crane to lift and install the oculus structure at the center of UAE pavilion roof top.

The company said that some of the on-site challenges included: restricted space in which to set up, operate, and dismantle the crane; a tight schedule in which to carry out the job; strong winds; and the structures had to be lifted at a specific angle, which impacted the selection of the lifting equipment. In addition, Al Faris had to fabricate steel mats to maintain the ground pressure.

Despite these challenges, Al Faris reported that the job was executed smoothly and safely.

Based in Dubai Industrial City, UAE, Al Faris provides lifting and transport services, integrated with best practices in QHSE.
