Sharkawy takes over as Asry acting CEO; Shaw in advisory role

September 2019

Asry, the Arabian Gulf’s leading maritime repair and fabrication facility, recently held a farewell gathering for the outgoing CEO Andy Shaw at the company’s headquarters, attended by acting CEO Magdy Sharkawy and a selection of management and colleagues. A full transition has been taking place for several months, with Sharkawy’s appointment effective from August 21. Shaw has been transferred to an advisory role.

Asry chairman Shaikh Daij bin Salman Al Khalifa said: “Andy re-joined Asry almost three years ago with the mission to secure its future, and bring stabilisation to Asry as it experienced difficult market conditions and internal challenges.

“Since then he has initiated a comprehensive organisational restructuring, as well as an operational overhaul that has reduced overhead costs. Safety levels are now at market-leading levels, and customer retention is now above 90 per cent.  His input in an advisory role will ensure continuity as Magdy Sharkawy moves the company forward as acting CEO.”

Sharkawy has served 38 years in Asry, most recently as Asry Ship Repair general manager.
