Alba launches summer safety campaign

ALUMINIUM BAHRAIN (Alba), known for its strong safety culture, has launched its special summer Safety Campaign, in line with the CEO’s 2019 expectations, under the theme “Safety Gateway.”

The week-long campaign will feature a number of presentations by top executives and safety visits to operational and non-operational departments, urging the employees throughout the company to maintain the highest level of safety and achieve zero heat-stress incidents during the hot summer months.

The opening ceremony held at Alba Oasis Hall held was attended by board chairman Shaikh Daij bin Salman bin Daij Al Khalifa and Alba board directors Osama Alarrayedh and Mutlaq Al Morished besides executive management led by the CEO Tim Murray along with managers and Alba employees as well as officials from Alba contracting companies.

Senior officials from Bahrain’s Ministry of Interior were also present namely: Major-General Alaa Siyadi – Commander of the Coast Guard, Brigadier Abdulla Hamad Al Kubaisi – Director-General of Customs Clearance and Inspection and Lt-Col Adel Al Dossari – Director of Operations and Traffic Control; Mr. Yasser Al Abbassi – General Manager Manufacturing at GPIC and Mr. Mohammed Awadh – Senior Advisor at Gulf Markets International.

Commenting on this occasion, Shaikh Daij said: “We think Safety First in everything we do. Today as we progress with the full ramp-up of Line 6 Expansion Project, we are proud to say that safety is a way of life in Alba.”

“I would like to thank all Alba employees and contractors for going the extra mile in making Alba a safe haven for us all,” he added.

Addressing the gathering, Murray, said: “Safety is a never-ending journey in Alba. With Alba’s transformation with Line 6 Expansion Project, we must think differently and the only way to embrace the change is through belief.”

“Our safety-tailored campaigns differ every season but communicate one message to employees and contractors – safety first at all times,” he added.

 

WINS ROSPA’S GOLD

The Bahrain-based aluminium smelter, was recently honoured with the Gold Medal Award 2019 by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) in recognition of its outstanding practices to ensure a safe and healthy work environment.

The award was received by Alba’s safety, health and environment manager Nezar Hameed during the internationally-renowned RoSPA Health and Safety Awards ceremony held last week at the ExCeL, in London, UK, said a statement from the company.

The RoSPA Awards scheme recognises organisations’ achievement in health and safety management systems around the world, including practices such as leadership and workforce involvement.

Headline sponsor of the event was the National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health (Nebosh) for the 14th consecutive year.

Alba’s chief executive officer Tim Murray said: “We are honoured to receive this prestigious accolade, for the sixth year in a row, as it underlines our Extreme Ownership on the best safety standards over the years.”

“We look forward to keep the safety momentum as we are on course for Alba’s transformation to be the largest smelter in the world with the full ramp-up of its Line 6 Expansion Project by July 31,” he added.
