BHGE, Darvico supply control valve package

Darvico’s plant in Jubail Industrial City

Baker Hughes, a GE company (BHGE) has announced the delivery of the highly engineered, severe service control valve packages to Saudi Aramco’s Jazan Integrated Gas Combined Cycle (IGCC) power plant.

At greater than 2,500 MW, the Jazan IGCC power plant is the world’s largest gasifier-based power plant, using vacuum residue and high-sulphur fuel oil from the Jazan Refinery to fuel power generation to feed the local Jazan complex, and to help meet the increase in energy demands across Saud Arabia.

Through a joint venture partnership established 1985, Dresser Al-Rushaid Valve and Instrument Co Ltd, (Darvico) and BHGE have been providing highly engineered, Masoneilan control valve solutions to Saudi Aramco through localised production within Saudi Arabia.

This includes localised assembly, test, and calibration capability completed in December 2018 at Darvico in Jubail Industrial City, Saudi Arabia for many highly engineered, and large size control valves, including multi-stage 30-inch low noise 49000 series, V-Log globe valves for vent applications.

Together with BHGE’s Conde, France factory, the combined teams have also successfully supplied many large size globe valves for oxygen service, and severe service sweep angle 73000 series valves for the highly erosive Blackwater letdown applications that are critical for the performance of this plant technology.

D R Pai, general manager of Darvico said: “The support of BHGE and Saudi Aramco were key drivers in the successful execution of the 10-tonne, 5-meter tall Masoneilan 49000 series assembly in our Jubail’s state of art facility. A customised and specially engineered product, these valves requires special manufacturing, testing and handling. Through local investments in advanced technology and equipment, such as (2) 20-tonne overhead cranes, and full range machine shop, Darvico has been able to undertake all assembling operations through our team of qualified Saudi engineers and professional locally.”

The 49K series RTJ flanged low noise vent globe valve has large flow capacity, is mounted with double acting piston cylinder actuator. The valves supplied to Saudi Aramco conform to International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) standards for noise attenuation. “Used in gas or liquid applications, demand for the large sized valves is limited and only companies such as Darvico has the expertise in technology and manufacturing capability to secure and execute such orders,” Pai added.

The expertise from Masoneilan and consolidated plants worldwide and local presence of Darvico is providing their customers full range of products and services. The company’s entire team is geared to provide 24 by 7 service to their customers. Darvico has already won appreciations from major petrochemical plants for the outstanding execution and support rendered during successful turnaround.

With the present expansion in Yanbu, Jazan and other new facilities planned, Darvico is all set to retain number one position in Saudi Arabia.
