Hunter to take over as new MD of KBSP

APM Terminals Bahrain, the operator of Khalifa Bin Salman Port (KBSP), has appointed Susan Hunter as the new managing director with effect from February 2019. Hunter will replace Mark Hardiman who is taking up a new position within APM Terminals as chief executive of the Port of Salalah in Oman.

Hunter is currently senior global director, Operational Excellence for, APM Terminals based in the UAE, and has held a number of senior management positions within Maersk Line, APM terminals parent company, over the last nine years. She will relocate from Dubai to Bahrain.

Commenting on her new appointment, Susan Hunter stated: “I’m delighted to be taking on this new role with APM Terminals. As Bahrain’s only commercial port, Khalifa Bin Salman Port is a highly valued national and regional infrastructure asset and has experienced impressive and sustained growth over recent years. This success has been made possible due to the hard work and talent of all of our local employees, led by Mark and his senior management team. I’m very much looking forward to working with them all as we embark on this next stage of our journey together.”

Outgoing CEO/managing director, Mark Hardiman commented: “Susan Hunter is a highly accomplished and respected member of the global APM Terminals team and I’m delighted to welcome her here to Bahrain. I know that her significant drive, experience and industry insight will be a major asset in further developing Khalifa Bin Salman Port as part of Bahrain’s future national economic development and success.”

A veteran of the logistics industry, Hardiman has a total of 23 years’ experience in shipping and ports, having worked in five different countries across three continents – specifically South Africa, Nigeria, Egypt, Belgium and the UAE, all in operational leadership positions, before coming to Bahrain.

Having joined APM Terminals Bahrain in 2012 as the COO, Hardiman has been influential in driving growth and enhancing business performance across the port’s various functions, including operations, IT and technical services. During these years Hardiman has demonstrated his wide range of industry experience by implementing performance enhancements to the operations of Khalifa Bin Salman Port (KBSP).

Since being promoted to the position of MD in 2015, he has worked to further develop Khalifa Bin Salman Port by forming strategies with key port stakeholders, along with courses of action to ensure that high service levels are maintained and continuously improved. He has spearheaded various major initiatives that involved substantial investments in IT (Information Technology) systems and terminal equipment, seeking to further enhance the performance of the terminal and setting challenging goals for the future.
