Sohar Steel has announced receiving Sustainable Construction Steel (SCS) scheme certification from the prestigious CAREs of UKCares certification United Kingdom.

Sohar Steel said it is the first steelmaker in the Sultanate to get the SCS scheme certification. The CARES SCS scheme aims, in particular, to establish a dynamic framework to improve the energy and environmental performance of products and provide a robust and transparent mechanism for communicating the environmental performance of steel products to designers and clients.

Having more than two decades of an excellent track record on quality and trust in Oman, Sohar Steel continues to be the most trusted steel brand (SSBS) in the country. Sohar Steel units were also the pioneers in getting CAREs and DCL certification for steel rebars in the Sultanate.

The Sohar steel is the winner of Best Manufacturer (Steel) for three consecutive years until 2016 and in the year 2017.

The group has three production units under its fold namely Sohartseel, Sharq Sohar Steel Rolling Mills and the Middle East Conversion Industries. The product range includes steel billets, rebars, epoxy coating, welded wire mesh and cut & bend. A new project for producing wire rod coil is also there on the anvil.

Sohar Steel is the first manufacturer of reinforcing bars in Oman, and one of the pioneers among private producers of reinforcing steel products in the region, which started its operations in 1996. The company has come a long way from being a re-roller with a production capacity of 80,000 million tonnes of reinforcing steel per annum to a vertically integrated steelmaker with an output of 800,000 mt of rebar per year.
