Taking the right measures

Jobsite supervisor takes horizontal measurement with PD-C_PD-CS from a steel beam, over-the-shoulder

Hilti, a global leader in providing technology-leading products, systems and services to the worldwide construction industry, has launched the new PD-CS laser range meter, which captures and saves measurements, and export data in one easy-to-analyse report. The Wi-Fi-enabled laser measurer with on-screen camera collects, documents and synchronises measurements, the company said in a release.

The new Hilti laser range meter captures and saves measurement data directly onto digital photographs taken by an integrated camera and laser module. The tool consolidates all recorded data by combining recorded measurements, updating measurement information and exporting it into one cumulative report.

The camera featured on the tool has an integral function allowing the user to spot the laser target under any lighting or weather condition. The entered information in the tool is then displayed on a large screen allowing the user to use it comfortably on any jobsite.

The tool offers an 8 GB internal memory, out of which more than 5 GB is free. It can store more than 3,000 measurements and pictures, as well as accurately measure heights to ceilings and long distances up to 200 metres. The PD-CS facilitates the process to document, export reports, oversee and plan tentative orders, and collaborate on site more effectively, it said.

The data exported can be shared in PDF format as well as extracted on a flash drive and saved for future use. Data can also be transferred via Bluetooth to Android devices and via Wi-Fi through Email and Dropbox to cloud based storage; facilitating file sharing across distant geographical areas. The images can be exported as a JPG file. A clear digital document trail makes it easy to generate accurate estimates to help insure that the right amount of materials is purchased, or verify that work is completed to specification, it added.

Hilti lasers are dedicated to precision accuracy yet even with built-in protection features, such instruments can be affected over time by everyday use.

The PD-CS measuring tool is covered by Hilti’s Tool Service which gives a complete no-cost period of two years. Following the initial no-cost period repair costs are capped, and the company promises a turnaround time of ‘three days or free’.

The Hilti Group, headquartered in Schaan, Liechtenstein, employs more than 24,000 team members in over 120 countries and generated annual sales of CHF 4.6 billion in 2016.
