Power Generation

Key services for power plants

Bosch Rexroth offers a complete range of drive and control solutions

In power generation plants, components must function fault-free for at least five years. Unscheduled downtimes are extremely costly and at the same time as much electricity as possible must be generated at the lowest possible cost using highly flexible and environment friendly processes.

“The complex plants require tailor-made systems due to their high temperature and pressures and their extensive safety devices which hopefully rarely trip,” said Rami AlAshqar, business development manager at Bosch Rexroth Middle East.

“Bosch Rexroth offers a complete range of drive and control solutions with in-depth consultancy expertise and best in class service portfolio ranging from conceptual development and commissioning,” he added.

The company, which has built up a pool of application expertise over several decades, recommends all the end-users to do regular routine inspection and maintenance on energy cylinder to ensure the safety, availability and useful life of these components.

Bosch Rexroth is servicing and maintaining the main steam stop valve (MSV) and control valve (CV) actuators at Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) power plant in Dubai, UAE through its partner in the UAE and Qatar - German Gulf Enterprises.

During regular maintenance of the system, Bosch Rexroth visually inspects all hydraulic components lines, connection damage, leaks, clogging indicator and position transducer and switches for proper functioning.

“If any of the actuator needs to be replaced during the inspection due to piston rod scoring marks, damage and oil leaks, they plan it during a major shutdown,” Sushil Kumar, divisional manager at German Gulf Enterprises said.

Dewa has new actuators / retrofit actuators in stock. However, during a shutdown, the damaged actuator which needs to be overhauled as per the schedule will be replaced by a new one and the removed one will be collected by German Gulf Enterprises.

The actuator will be sent to Bosch Rexroth for complete overhauling, where it will be inspected and the inspection report will be sent to German Gulf Enterprises offering complete overhauling along with picture of damaged parts. The offer is then to be submitted to Dewa, Kumar explained.

“Rexroth delivers innovative solutions to meet the current market demand for energy efficiency, safety and migration of functionality to software as well as offers products and a service portfolio which reduce machine and plant operating costs,” he added.
