Alba holds the final session of 2017 ‘Town Hall Meetings’

Aluminium Bahrain (Alba), one of the world’s leading aluminium smelters based in Bahrain, achieved its highest ever metal production of 971,420 metric tonnes (mt) in 2016, up by 1.1 per cent year-on-year as compared to 960,643 mt in 2015.

Commenting on Alba’s milestone achievement, Tim Murray, chief executive officer, said: “We are proud to be celebrating yet another record in production despite the tough market conditions. Alba has succeeded once again due to the hard work of its people, effective teamwork and commitment to operational efficiency.”

“This achievement is significant because it was accomplished on the back of our high safety performance and without significant additional capital expenditures, only by relying on our culture of continuous improvement.

“I congratulate everyone on the record-production and look forward to bigger achievements in 2017 as when united, we do better than necessary to improve our performance and plant reliability,” he added.

A ceremony to mark the milestone production was held at Alba Oasis, which was attended by Alba executive management, directors, managers and employees from various departments.

Meanwhile, Alba marked the final session of the 2017 ‘Town Hall Meetings’ which was held at Alba Oasis Hall, in Manama.

The meetings commenced on January 15, and covered more than 89 per cent of Alba’s workforce through nine sessions, said a statement from the company.

This year, the ‘Town Hall Meetings’ sessions also witnessed the participation of dignitaries from various private and public organisations in Bahrain, it said.

Murray said: “The meeting was launched with the purpose of establishing a direct line of communication between employees and the management as well as to convey our company’s performance and expectations in a simple and transparent manner.”

“We believe that these sessions help bridge the gap between different layers of the company and build synergy amongst various teams,” he said.

“Alba had a great year in terms of safety and operational achievements in 2016. We must now prepare for 2017 as what makes us successful at one level is not what makes us successful at the next,” he said.

“By building on our 2017 Expectations, namely: Safety Tomorrowland; Line 6 Transformation; Titan DNA and Do Your Job A+, we aim to exceed our targets and achieve beyond excellence in everything we do,” he added.

The meeting was a special initiative introduced by Murray in January 2014 as a way of directly communicating with the employees and updating them on the company’s performance and achievements of the past year and the goals for the coming year, it stated.
