Eaton launches MCC solutions

Eaton’s SmartPX system

Power management company Eaton has announced a powerful new system for motor control centres (MCCs) and power distribution centres in low-voltage global International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) applications.

The dynamic SmartPXTM hardware and software system provides a range of protection, monitoring and control functionality and is integrated with Eaton Power Xpert CXHTM motor control centres, said the company in a statement.

“Eaton’s latest motor control centre technology provides predictive and preventive maintenance tools for critical process industries,” said Lee Baker, oil and gas segment lead, Eaton EMEAI. “This kind of approach to managing power systems enables greater process reliability, reduced maintenance and enhanced safety for our oil and gas and mining customers.”

Although real-time data is increasingly required to monitor how well systems are functioning today and predict issues before they occur, the abundance of data can overload existing networks. Eaton’s SmartPX technology stores and analyzes data from connected electrical equipment, learns normative load characteristics and sends alarms and warnings to upstream systems when connected equipment is not operating as expected. The system tracks trends in total power, current and voltage used by connected electrical equipment.

It is integrated and factory configured and tested in Eaton’s Power Xpert CXH low-voltage motor control and power distribution centres. The intelligent system builds on Eaton’s networked MCC technology and provides enhanced maintenance tools, systems reliability, performance analysis and load profiling. It can be used locally or through an existing distributed control system, supervisory control and data acquisition (Scada), enterprise resource planning (ERP) or other network.
