Nuhas lines up big expansion plan

Nuhas Cables factory in Oman

Nuhas Oman Cables & Wires, a UK-certified integrated quality producer of LV (low voltage) and MV (mid voltage) cables, wires and conductors, is expanding its installed capacity by 15 per cent.

“We have embarked on a project expansion for commercial production commencing early 2017 which will enhance our plant capacity particularly targeted for speciality cables. We have a current production capacity of over 25,000 metric tonnes per annum of copper cables when working full tilt,” says Sunil Bhutani, general manager (commercial), Nuhas Oman.

Nuhas, which commenced operations in Oman as a producer of Oxygen Free CC Copper Rods in mid-2004 using the world renowned Outokumpu Upcast technology, registered robust growth in both the LV and MV segments last year with the company notching sales of $225 million, he says.

“The company has been experiencing stupendous growth at the rate of 23 to 25 per cent CAGR over the last five years and we are confident of maintaining the momentum in the future,” he says.

The first half of 2016 has been very encouraging and actual performance is better than budgeted he says adding:    “We expect to maintain our track record of double digit growth in sales.”

The company, which posted all-round growth across all product segments as planned, did exceptionally well in grabbing big and prestigious oil and gas project orders from BP and PDO for instrumentation and custom-designed speciality cables, says Bhutani.

The company’s next phase of growth is going to be driven by its growing international footprint, as it intends to make a strong move to cater to the requirements of projects in the Arabian Gulf, Caspian Sea and North Sea regions.

“We have targeted these regions and have some success in appointing an agent in Iran to market our products and supply our oil and gas, specialised and offshore cables to various projects in the Gulf. For Caspian Sea Projects we are extensively working with our partners in Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan,” he says.

Nuhas is also entering the European market by introducing its product range at ONS 2016, a specialised offshore event held at Norway from August 29 to September 1, 2016.

Subsequently, the company plans to concentrate on exploring markets in far eastern Asia. Nuhas Oman has already commenced talks with companies in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and Brunei to this end, and hopes to have agreements finalised soon, he reveals.

Currently, Nuhas is exporting its standard products – LV power and control cables – to the African and GCC markets targeting countries such as Nigeria, Kenya, the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait and Bahrain.

“Our speciality cables – instrumentation cables, marine and offshore cables – are being exported to European countries like Italy, Spain, Poland, Switzerland and Germany,” he says.

The company launched its marine and offshore cables to meet the requirements of power control, and instrumentation cables for onshore and offshore applications. The latest addition to its product range is the introduction of Nuhas FRC Series cables certified by LPCB, UK.

“Nuhas is the first and only producer in the Middle East to have been certified by DNV, Norway for its capability to manufacture power, control and instrumentation cables for shipboard, high speed/light craft marine and offshore applications,” he says.

Nuhas Oman has a cutting edge technology, state-of-the-art manufacturing and total quality management (TQM) processes which have been sourced from the world leaders to ensure optimum production capabilities and product quality that consistently meets international standards, says Bhutani.

Quality assurance is the prime driving force behind the company’s operations. Nuhas is committed to delivering quality products that conform to relevant International standards. “A well-equipped in-house quality assurance facility ensures that all products delivered meet stringent quality controls and parameters,” he says.
