Aluminium Bahrain (Alba), one of the world’s leading aluminium smelters, has won the ‘Best Nationalisation Initiative’ certificate at the Mena HR Excellence Awards 2016, which was held recently in Dubai, UAE.

The win reflects the company’s pioneering role in the region as well as its continuous efforts towards nationalisation and human resources development in Bahrain, said a statement from Alba.

Alba’s manager of human resources (HR) Hamad Al Shaibeh received the certificate at the ceremony, the region’s leading HR platform dedicated to recognising talent managers, business and thought leaders, it said.

Alba’s chief executive officer Tim Murray said: “Our company is aligned with the kingdom’s Economic Vision 2030 to recruit, train and develop Bahrainis and provide them with meaningful careers for an enriching future.”

“I am proud to say that our Bahraini employees play an integral role in contributing to the company’s growth. We are honoured to receive the ‘Best Nationalisation Initiative’, which validates our success over the years as well as our on-going efforts towards Bahrainisation,” he added.

For over forty years, Alba has been committed to providing Bahraini nationals with meaningful training opportunities that help build successful careers, said a statement.

Alba has also received local and regional accolades for its accomplishments in Bahrainisation of its work force. On-going training initiatives, scope for professional development coupled with attractive incentives have strengthened the company’s status as an employer of choice amongst Bahraini nationals, it added.

The company also bolstered its commitment towards the development of its workforce by conducting a leadership workshop titled “Boss vs Leader” for its non-management employees recently at the Alba Club.

The workshop, delivered by Murray, aimed at providing the attendees with suitable leadership skills needed to compete in the global markets.

Commenting on the workshop, Murray, stated: “Employees are our most valuable assets in the Company. We believe that through direct communication, we will be able to connect with our human capital to share our goals and priorities. Also, one-on-one workhops with our employees ensure getting the message across the different layers of management as well as engage directly with the workforce.”

It is worthy to note that the “Boss vs Leader” workshop was originally presented to Alba’s Executives, Directors and Managers followed by its management employees. The workshop was then extended to the non-management employees in order to ensure that they too are equipped with the valuable leadership skills covered in the workshop.
