SR Technics, wholly owned by Abu Dhabi’s Mubadala Development Company, reinforced its position as the leading aircraft maintenance, repairs and operations (MRO) company with new contracts across western and eastern markets.

One of its recent deals requires it to service Condor Flugdienst GmbH’s Pratt & Whitney (PW) 4000 engine fleet. Condor is part of the Thomas Cook Group Airlines, Germany’s most popular leisure airline.

The six-year contract covers SR Technics’ turnkey support for Condor’s PW4000 fleet, which keeps its Boeing 767 fleet flying with safe and efficient operations. The contracted work, which will include engine overhauls, will be carried out at the SR Technics Centre of Excellence for Engine Services in Zurich,
Switzerland.

SR Technics’ interim CEO Jeremy Remacha commented: “We have enjoyed a long-standing relationship with Condor and the Thomas Cook Group Airlines, and now our flexible and cost-efficient turnkey solution has resulted in this exclusive engine services contract. In addition, we have provided Condor with financial risk mitigation and other value-adding benefits including exclusive access to a spare engine parts pool and a spare engine. All of that was arranged in addition to guaranteeing the excellent technical services that every SR Technics customer expects of us.”

Last month, the company announced it has extended its cooperation with EasyJet, signing a five-year extension on its maintenance cooperation agreement in Malta. SR Technics will perform base and heavy maintenance along with cabin retrofits for easyJet’s narrow-body aircraft in Malta. In parallel, SR Technics will perform a stand-alone line of cabin retrofits over a two-year period. SR Technics opened its facility in Malta six years ago following a landmark contract with the carrier in late 2009.

SR Technics hosted a special event with Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) in Zurich in May to introduce the new upgraded SAS cabin experience. In late 2014, SAS had teamed up with SR Technics to enhance the cabin experience of its Airbus 330-300 and 340-300 aircraft, and the two companies have completed a total of eleven refurbishments to date.

SR Technics also signed an engine maintenance contract with Pakistan’s second largest airline, Airblue Limited.

Worth over $30 million, the agreement runs until 2022 and covers the maintenance and overhaul of the CFM56-5B engines used on Airblue’s Airbus A320 fleet. This new agreement builds on the success of a seven-year contract between the two companies for the same services.

Meanwhile, since its opening in April 2014, SR Technics Malaysia has repaired 10,000 components for various customers. The company’s Malaysian unit has capabilities for 540 part numbers with a focus on the Airbus A320 family, the A330, the A340 and the Boeing 737NG, and the company is in the process of adding 200 more part numbers by end of 2016.

SR Technics is collaborating closely with the Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Science and Technology (Empa) and the Federal Office of Civil Aviation (FOCA), Switzerland, to develop a method for measuring emissions of fine particulate matter from aircraft engines.

No one has yet found a solution to the emission of ultra-fine particles from jet engines. These microscopically small particles can penetrate deep into the lungs and thus adversely affect health. As a precautionary measure, these emissions from air traffic will now also be measured, regulated and reduced.
