Deal inked for water plant 

OMAN Power and Water Procurement (OPWP) has signed a RO100-million ($259 million) agreement with a consortium to build a water desalination plant in Sohar, north of the country. 

The consortium comprises Valoriza Agua-Spain, Oman Brunei Investment Company and Sogex Oman (under the flagship of Myah Gulf Oman Desalination Company). 

Expected to start commercial operations in 2018, the independent project will produce 250,000 cu m of water per day using reverse osmosis as the water purification technology.

 

Damen dredgers for Saudi 

THE Saudi Border Guard has acquired two Damen Cutter Suction Dredgers (CSD 450s) for harbour maintenance duties. 

Damen, which had previously delivered six patrol vessels in 2000, customised the dredgers from stock. They have a maximum dredging depth of -12 m and a mixture production of 3,000 m3/h. 

The cutter suction dredgers will be based at Jeddah and Dammam and perform various maintenance dredging jobs independently, such as clearing areas at jetties and keeping harbours to depth. 

 

SR Technics, Airblue ink deal

SR Technics, owned by Abu Dhabi’s Mubadala Development Co and one of the world’s leading providers of technical solutions to airlines, has signed a $30 million  engine maintenance contract with Pakistan’s second largest airline, Airblue Limited, extending a previous seven-year pact. 

The deal runs until 2022 and covers the maintenance and overhaul of CFM56-5B engines used on Airblue’s Airbus A320 fleet. 
 

ADFD, Irena pact on funding

THE Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) has signed an agreement with the International Renewable Energy Agency (Irena) to ensure the effective allocation of $350 million of funds pledged by ADFD for renewable energy projects in developing countries.

The facility has already allocated $144 million worth of funds over three cycles for renewable energy, which will see 15 projects supported in various places.
