Bin Shafar: company on right track

Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation (Empower), the world’s largest district cooling service provider, has completed the construction of its Central Store facility at a total cost Dh18 million ($4.90 million) in Dubai’s Al Quoz Industrial area. It covers an area of 7,100 sq m and was described as state of the art for the storage of parts and accessories.

An Empower statement said the facility includes storage areas including one for chemical drums, office space, gantry cranes, a loading/unloading area and other space.

It is designed to conserve electricity and water consumption. Ahmad Bin Shafar, chief executive of Empower, said the company is working toward the goal of extending district cooling services on a larger scale in the region.

“The Central Store is a world-class repository that follows green standards,” Bin Shafar said, adding that the facility would help regulate the process of supplying materials to its projects across Dubai in view of expanded operations in the wake of higher demand.

The new building, strategically located to serve key areas in Dubai, is constructed in line with the Dubai Municipality’s green building regulations and specifications.

“We expect strong demand from new developments in view of urban expansion in Dubai until Expo 2020. It will be our responsibility to ensure rapid response in providing district cooling for all types of real estate projects,” said Bin Shafar.

Empower currently operates more than 1 million RT, providing environmentally responsible district cooling services to large-scale real estate developments such as Jumeirah Group, Business Bay, Jumeirah Beach Residence, Dubai International Financial Centre, Palm Jumeirah, Jumeirah Lake Towers, Ibn Battuta Mall, Discovery Gardens, Dubai Healthcare City, Dubai World Trade Centre Residences and Dubai Design District, among others.

Empower showcased its technology at the the World Future Energy Summit (WFES 2016) in Abu Dhabi last month,

The company recently participated in the “Rapid Assessment of Indian Cities for District Cooling” programme, which is part of the “District Energy in Cities” initiative launched by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).

Empower was earlier selected by UNEP as a partner of this global initiative.
