Adnoc announced a new oil blend at Adipec

SCHNEIDER Electric, a global specialist in energy management, was among several leading international brands that presented their capabilities at the Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (Adipec).

The company’s expertise includes integrated oil and gas solutions that help optimise resources in onshore and offshore facilities across the oil and gas value chain.

Schneider Electric’s integrated solutions deliver field to enterprise solutions for upstream, midstream and downstream markets, with applications focused on energy management and infrastructure optimisation. Its Main Automation/Main Electrical Contractor (MAC/MEC) approach complements an integrated solution by offering a best-in-class solution and project deployment capabilities including strong OT (Operational Technology) and IT integration, project management, guarantee of successful integration, and total installed and life cycle costs optimisation.

The company also displayed its renewed Smart O&G Field solution that helps maximise production and optimise energy management while improving reservoir performance with real-time data. Some of Schneider Electric’s top market solutions are ‘Enterprise Pipeline Management System’ (PLMS), a complete and integrated pipeline management technology, spanning from real-time operational and supervisory control room  down to the pipeline automation level, integrating process, power and security; Energy Management Control Systems (EMCS), a  solution for large electrical infrastructures as in the oil and gas industry with several installed projects around the world; Electrical House (eHouse), a complete and modular design delivering compact, efficient, and cost-effective power substations.

Schneider’s offering in integrated security solution enables plant-wide security of people and assets, including access management system, intrusion detection with analytics, secure telecom backbone and redundant control room among other features.

Benoit Dubarle, country president, UAE, Oman and Pakistan, Schneider Electric, said: “Ensuring safe operations with the most efficient solutions are fundamental for oil and gas operations. For instance, pipeline leaks can cost hundreds of millions of dollars and negatively impact the environment. Schneider Electric has the technologies to detect, localise and ensure a safe operation.

“Similarly on the efficiency front, energy consumption is one of the largest operational costs. We have the monitoring and optimisation tools to provide operators in both real time and off-line ensuring a more efficient energy delivery, savings and 24/7 power availability, which are critical to ensuring the profitability of oil and gas pipelines, while minimising risks.”

ADNOC, OTHER FIRMS

On the sidelines of the event, Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (Adnoc) announced a new oil blend named Das Crude emerging from the Umm Shaif and Lower Zakum oilfields. The new crude is a light sweet crude with an API of approximately 39.2 degrees and sulfur content of 1.3 percent wt.

Cavotec demonstrated its comprehensive product range for the offshore energy industry. The group presented oil and gas firms with technologies including explosion-proof radio remote control (RRC) and receiver units, Ex-connectors, Ex-collectors, crane controllers, power chains, motorised and spring driven cable reels and steel chains, power connectors and crane seat/cabin systems. Cavotec RRS units are Atex and IEC certified, ensuring safe and secure communications in the most demanding of environments.

“Through our personal interaction with leading figures in the oil and gas sector, we also aim to spot emerging trends in the industry. This is an important process that we undertake in order to further enhance our offering, as well as develop new solutions for new challenges and opportunities,” said Juergen Strommer, managing director at Cavotec Middle East.

Cavotec systems, deployed at various offshore applications across the globe, can also be found in several offshore projects in the Middle East region. This year, the group further expanded its footprint in the UAE with a number of major contracts through its Middle East subsidiary, which provides technical, engineering and sales support to regional customers from its Jebel Ali-based headquarters.

WÄRTSILÄ’S OFFERINGS

Wärtsilä, the marine industry’s leading solutions and services provider, showcased its innovative and high-technology products and systems for customers in the oil and gas industry. Wärtsilä brings valuable and unique experience across the whole oil and gas value chain. “By consistently developing and improving its offering for this growth sector, Wärtsilä enhances efficiency and environmental footprint in the production and transportation of oil and gas,” said a spokesman.

One of the products highlighted was the Wärtsilä 34DF. “With environmental impact and the compliance with emission regulations in controlled areas becoming a key concern for ship operators, there is a need for solutions that are compliant with IMO, SOx and EPA regulations. Since 2003, the Wärtsilä 34DF has paved the way in the LNG-fuelled offshore support vessel market. Today, this product is being mainly used in tugs, ferries, Ro-Ro, Ro-Pax and workboats. The innovative flexibility of Dual-Fuel engines enables ships to run on gas or liquid fuel. While reducing different emissions in considerable quantities, Wärtsilä Dual-Fuel engines also reduce capital and operating expenditures, bringing cost efficiencies to operations,” the company said.

The company also offered its electrical and automation package and its pump and valves solutions.

BASF Global Oilfield Solutions exhibited its broad range of products for the oilfield service industry. Its portfolio in this field is broad and comprises products for the drilling and completion of oil wells as well as chemicals for continuous and cost-efficient production of valuable oil and gas resources. BASF Global Oilfield Solutions develops next-generation surfactants and polymers, designed to support enhanced oil recovery (EOR) operations by means of chemical injection.

The company hosted application-specific presentations on the following topics: Introducing Global Oilfield Solutions; Production Chemicals; Stimulation Additives, as well as Drilling and Cementing Additives.

Power management company Eaton displayed its portfolio of electrical, explosion-proof and hydraulic equipment for the industry, including the latest innovations from recently acquired Cooper brands, such as Crouse-Hinds, MTL, CEAG and B-Line. Eaton also demonstrated its expertise in providing reliable, high-performance energy distribution and uninterruptable power supply (UPS) systems.
