A Bapco plant

BAPCO and its contractor employees have achieved a new record in safety by completing one million hours without a lost time injury. This significant accomplishment reflects the ongoing efforts and dedication of Bapco and contractor employees to working safely, said Bapco.

“As we congratulate ourselves on our continuing excellent level of safety performance, we must also reinforce our vigilance and efforts in the prevention of injuries,” said Bapco deputy chief executive Ebrahim Talib.

“Record safety achievements of this kind do not happen by accident, but are rather due to vigilance, awareness, adherence to health and safety requirements, continuous improvements and commitment from everyone in the company.”

Earlier, the Supreme Council for the Environment discussed with Bapco representatives the environmental feasibility of the MTBE compound as a petrol enhancer and additive for use in the kingdom’s locally consumed fuel.

The council’s CEO, Dr Adel Khalifa Al Zayani, recently hosted a delegation from Bapco, chaired by Talib and John Kneiss, director of North America, Hart Energy Consulting, the mandatory company to prepare an environmental feasibility study on the compound MTBE. At the meeting, Kneiss presented an overview of the results of analysing the chemical elements and their effects.

The presentation concluded with a request from the council to provide the technical details, specifications and standards for the compound’s processing unit, which will be installed in the refinery company in the future in order to determine the health and safety standards through all work phases concerned with the chemical compound.
