New Bosch VFDs save energy

The latest Rexroth VFD models are simple to use and convenient, cause less wear and tear and, most of all, bestow energy and cost savings

Bosch Rexroth, which introduced this year three new models of VFDs (Variable Frequency Drives), was able to help a UAE hotel achieve maximum chilled water at a suitable temperature through use of the innovations.

New models it introduced were the Rexroth frequency converters Fv, Fe and EFC 3600. The company said that with demand existing among end-users for energy-efficient machines, these converters offer economical and easy-to-use solutions for various applications in which valuable energy is saved.

VFDs are a powerful way to increase motor efficiency by controlling the speed of the AC induction motor. “Rexroth products are fairly simple to use and eliminate high in-rush currents on the motor start up. This mainly decreases the mechanical wear on the motor components, which extends the life of the motor and decreases maintenance costs. This happens by varying the frequency of the power source. It’s about switching the output devices on and off,” a company statement said. “Also, in recent years VFDs costs are lower, making VFD-solutions more cost effective.”

EFC 3600 frequency converters are used
for higher energy efficiency and improved
process control

VFDs help maintain energy consumption at the right level. Recently, the Emirates Grand Hotel in Dubai, UAE, had a problem with the higher floors (35th to the 47th) having less cooled air than the lower-level floors. The reason for this was the supplied temperature of the chilled water. The temperature of the chilled water was around 12.7 C, which is a major issue because the temperature should not exceed 8 C. In addition, more power was consumed because all the pumps were running at full speed which was also causing un-balanced water pressure. These problems create less comfort for occupants and less profit for the hotel.

To solve these issues, Getco (Green Earth Technology), a specialist in cooling transfer and saving energy, chose Rexroth VFDs, as a result of which the pumps did not run at full speed all the time, which also solved the issue of un-balanced water pressure. By varying the speed of the motors, Getco was able to achieve maximum chilled water under 8 C. “We choose Rexroth VFDs because they are the most reliable on the market and known for their great German engineering.” said Dr Taoufik A Hadi, head of engineers at Getco. Bosch, as a whole, is continuously enhancing its products with the latest technologies.

new and economical line of converters
