Kuwait metro sets date

Kuwait expects its metro project to be up and running in 2020. 

A study for the first-phase is almost complete and will be reviewed for approval by a higher committee for government-sanctioned projects. Bids for that phase will be accepted by the end of this year, Kuna news agency quoted the director of the technical apparatus for development projects, Adel Al Roumi, as saying.

The committee will hold a meeting in October, Al Roumi said. The official said the Kuwait metro project needs vast infrastructure and as soon as the bid winner is announced, work on the project will begin in 2013.

 

Acwa wins Morocco deal

Morocco’s solar energy agency has selected a consortium led by Saudi International Company for Water and Power (Acwa) to build a 160 MW concentrated solar power plant in the south of the country, the agency said.

Mustafa Bakkoury, who heads the state’s Solar Energy Agency (Masen), made the announcement at a press conference. Acwa has teamed up with Spanish engineering firm Aries IS and TSK EE for the design, finance, construction, operation and maintenance of the plant near the southern city of Ouarzazate.

 

Two teams possible for metro

The 175-km Riyadh Metro network contract may be awarded to more than one consortium, a report said.

Four international consortia are competing to build the Metro network, the Arab News reported quoting officials of the High Commission for the Development of Arriyadh.

The consortia – including 33 companies from 15 countries – have to submit their final bids by December.

 

Sunergy inks modules deal

China Sunergy, a specialised solar cell and module manufacturer, has reached an agreement with Carillion Construction, a UK-based company dedicated to sustainable and green energy projects, for installation of
solar modules at its affiliate company in Dubai.
